"What is that lady doing? no one's lived in that house for years"
Luke slowed the Silverado, so she could do whatever it was she was doing. Like a magic trick she disappeared in a puff of black smoke
"where'd she go?" We both saw her, she wasn't just a figment of Luke, or my imagination.
"OH! My God"
I said screaming, as she appeared at the hood of the pick-up, she was hideous! Her face was both alive, and dead at the same time, one side a human face with deep brown, long, curly hair, the other part, dead, a rotting skull, with tufts of hair sprouting from the top. She wore ragged Victorian era clothes, ripped, and covered in dirt and falling apart, she was dead!
"Luke! Luke" it was no use he was completely frozen, in plain terror. For what seemed like forever, I didn't know what to do I just freaked out, then the words I was taught in Sunday school as a child, before I knew it the familiar words came out of my mouth,
"For even though I walk through the valley of death..." as the words came from my mouth Luke unfroze, and recited the verse too, in seconds she was gone, we sat there breathing heavily, finally I spoke,
"Drive!" he hammered the gas, and we were gone, eighty miles an hour down sycamore, all the way back to my place
We sat in my room together, he held me as I cried still terrified, he kissed the top of my head and held me closer, the warmth from his body calmed my fear and his smell, made everything alright, it always did no matter what happened, I was in love with him. Luke and I met in a sixth math class, his dirty blond hair, and blue eyes caught my eyes, igniting the first of many crushes on him, he of course just ran. Then high school came around and we both fell like rain for each other, we started going out. When senior year came, he gave me a promise ring. we have stayed together since.
"We need to find out what that was, what if it followed us home?" The room grew cold, and seemed to get darker as well,
"Babe, I don't think it did, and if it did, we'll get it gone." The phone rang scaring the hell out of both of us, a number that always put disgust in my heart popped up on the screen, Cheyenne, I rolled my eyes and answered the phone,
"hey, Cheyenne what's up" I said, with fake enthusiasm, the only reason I even answer or talk to her at all is because being her friend means a gift, selfish I know but I was trying to gather house stuff, like skillets, pots, and silver wear. Adding everything together isn't a cheap venture.
"Hey Nicky! Did something just happen to you?"
"Sort of. How did you know?"
"I'm sort of psychic, I can speak to the dead something told me to call you." I looked at Luke, in shock,
"Cheyenne I'm putting the phone on speaker, so Luke can hear what you have to say"
"K, go ahead and do that" she said, I pushed the button on the phone and said
"Go ahead" there was a pause on the other end of the phone
"Something on the road, A woman appeared in front of your car" We looked at each other in shock, mouths gaping open, I reached up my hand covering my mouth
Luke spoke for me, I was in too much shock to speak,
"yes"
"Something followed you home alright, but not her, she merely warned you, the spirit of a man followed you, by the name of John Montgomery."
"Oh my god! Is he evil?"
"Yes, He was killed by his wife when she caught him abusing their daughter, she left and was never charged, the daughter is still living, if you want more info you can track her down, she has her mama's maiden name now it's Maryanne Daniels"
