{Welcome to Hell!}
________________
The Grant twins have only been separated for six minutes their whole entire thirteen years and that was the day they were born.
Growing up, they shared everything. From toys to a bedroom to friends who were a lot younger than them. But when it came to the younger twin's best friend, her older sister did not want to share him.
Thirteen year old, Steve Harrington had stolen the heart of Talia Grant's younger twin sister, Theresa Grant. They had been best friends since the day Steve stood up for her at the kindergarten playground when a couple of boys were making fun of her pigtails.
As they grew up, Steve and Theresa began closer and closer until they shared their very first kiss, on top of a tree branch. They were eleven years old and Steve had suggested that they go tree climbing. Shortly after the awkward kiss, Theresa fell out of the tree and had fractured her wrist. Earning her the nickname of Tree.
When they turned thirteen, the girls' lives as they knew it was turned upside down. They're parents were constantly fighting and had fallen out of love, while the twins had fell into love.
Talia and Jonathan Byers were best friends like how Tree and Steve were, only they were shy about their feelings for each other. Tree and Steve were not shy about their feelings, only they kept it a secret from anyone that wasn't inner circle.
Theresa would always be a grinning fool while she sat in on the hours long campaigns of her sister and their little friends, Will Byers, Dustin Henderson, Lucas Sinclair and Mike Wheeler. The Grants lived across from the Wheelers and even though they had girls the same age, the Grant twins were closer with the younger Wheeler and his best friends.
The little boys were always grossed out as Tree would go on and on about how Steve Harrington would make her heart leap. Talia would always sit with the boys and frown while they groaned. She loved her sister and she loved how love made her happy. But she just did not have the heart to tell her precious sister what she had heard one day.
Steve Harrington was twelve years old when he suddenly realized the school was his kingdom. Boys and girls wanted to always hang out with him, be around him, whatever they can do to be known around school. Steve had a reputation and he would he damned if he ruined it before it got to blossom.
One night at the Grant household, the girls were sat down about the news that changed their lives forever. Marissa and Edward Grant were getting a divorce and the girls were to be separated. They held each other that night as they cried about the inevitable.
A week later, Tree had decided that it was now or never to tell Steve about her strong crush on him. She cautiously walked up to the king of middle school, her best friend. She wiped her sweaty palms on her light wash jeans.
"Steve?" His name came out softly, afraid that he wouldn't have heard her. And as he turned around with a small smile on his face, she wished he didn't have heard her.
"Hey Tree, oh, is everything okay? You're paler then a ghost." Steve chuckled out as he stared down at the girl. She shallowed the lump in her throat as she wrapped her arms around herself.
"Uh yea, yea, everything is just fine. I just, um, wanted to tell you something and it's uh, it's kinda important.." her eyes wondered everywhere that wasn't his eyes. Her nerves were growing and she was afraid she was going to empty her stomach of breakfast onto his shoes.
"Oh-okay. Well, what is it?" His gaze never left her face even if she wasn't looking at him. He gently leaned against his locker with his arms crossed over his chest.
"I think.. I think I'm falling in love with you.." her voice came out so small and delicate, he almost misses what she had said. With his eyes wide and scared that anyone had heard her, he gently grasped her arm and pulled her into an empty classroom.
"Shut up! Don't you know how to keep your voice down? Voices carry, you know!" She stared up at him with bewilderment in her eyes. Did she hear him correctly?
"Wh-what?" Tree's voice shook a little as tears welled up in her eyes.
"Tree, I.. I just don't.. Uh, I-I got a reputation, Theresa. I don't just.. I don't want it to go away, you know? Shit, I'm sorry this is shitty. But I just.. I can't date my best friend. Especially, when she hangs out with little kids.." Steve stuttered out with his own nerves growing within his body. The second his rejection came out of his mouth, he instantly regretted it.
Theresa no longer held her tears back as they dripped from her eyes. She couldn't believe what she had just heard. She couldn't believe her best friend would break her heart like this. Especially over a stupid reputation he got just because his family name was a well respected name.
Tree finally met Steve's gaze and saw the insane amount of regret and sorrow in his eyes. She shook her head to snap herself out of his gaze. With a quick push on his chest, Theresa Grant ran out of the classroom and right out of the doors of the middle school. Her heart was shattered into a million pieces.
Talia, Jonathan Byers and the boys were right by Tree's side as she experienced her first heart break and she never wanted to experience that again. Even with her shattered heart, she still felt her heart swell with love and appreciation for her sister and the boys as they spent every moment together.
As the long week ended, it was time for the Grant twins to say goodbye to their childhood home, goodbye to their very best friends and goodbye to the person they had shared every waking moment with.
Leaving Hawkins, Indiana was the best and worse thing to happen to Talia and Theresa Grant.
