The Nerd Convention

Chapter written by: iLoveMyPanda

By the time the weekend rolled around I realized that I should have made plans so I wouldn't be so bored. Making a last minute decision, I threw on some clothes and drove over to Cameron's house, I bet he's just as bored as I am.

I pulled into Cameron's driveway at the same time Cameron came out of his house. For a couple of seconds we just stared at each other silently. Taking in his backpack, it looked like Cameron was about to go somewhere. I got out of my truck and met Cameron halfway up his driveway.

"Where do you think you're going, Punk?" I joked, nudging Cameron with my elbow as I steered him over to my truck.

"I-I was going-g t-to take a b-bus to the c-convention."

"Without me?" I asked, sounding offended, "I'm hurt."

I watched as his eyes got big and he began to panic, "I-I-I d-didn't t-think you wou-would want-t to g-go." I was amazed by how much his stutter managed to increase.

"Hey, hey chill, I was just joking. But can I come I'm bored. I'll give you a ride!" I grabbed his arm like a child, "Pleaaaseee!" I dragged the word out.

Cameron gave an obedient nod and climbed into my truck, I grinned and skipped around to the driver's side and hopped in. I started the truck and began driving in the direction of the convention center that holds different types of conventions every year.

"So how were you going to get to the convention anyways?" I asked, snapping my gum, I enjoy watching him cringe at the sound before replying to me.

"I-I have a b-bus p-pass."

I nodded my head as he showed me his bus pass. We continued with some small talk until we pulled up to the convention center. As soon as we got out of the truck I stopped dead in my tracks and began staring at all the people walking through the parking lot.

Cameron walked over to me and gently nudged me to get my attention. I kept gawking.

"What kind of convention is this?" I whispered, as if someone would hear me.

"U-uh, uhm-m." Before he could give me a proper answer a giant smile broke out onto my face.

"Are we at a nerd convention!?" I practically shouted, causing some people to give us weird looks, I hissed at them and they quickly walked away.

"N-not exact-tly, I-I m-mean kind-da."

"You're such a nerd." I commented not unkindly bopping him on the nose. "This is awesome, come on." I grabbed his wrist and began dragging him into the building, we each payed for our badge before walking into the giant mass of nerdom.

Cameron quietly walked along side me while I dragged him along with me to every single booth that caught my eye. I only recognized some things so I kept asking Cameron what most things were.

"What's this?" I asked eagerly, shoving the blue box in Camerons face.

"I-it's the T-TARDIS."

"What the hell is that?" Before he had the chance to explain, I dropped the police box back on the table and began dragging him over to a guy dressed up as Gandolf from Lord of the Rings, one of the few things I do recognize.

"Can I just- I'll give it back- Please just for a second!" I ripped the protesting guy's props from his hands and shoved his hat on my head.

I ran towards a large group of people walking towards my direction and as loud as I could shouted,

"YOU SHALL NOT PASS!" Now I have no idea what I was expecting to happen, but the result was far better than I could imagine.

Literally all of the nerds in front of me began spazzing out and running around making weird noises. And then this guy who was also dressed up as Gandolf just came out of nowhere and I nearly died from laughter when he stood across from me, straight faced with what he was about to do next.

"You shall not pass!" He bellowed at me, so of course I took this as an immediate challenge.

"No, YOU shall not pass!" I yelled back, stepping closer to him, banging 'my' staff on the ground for emphasis.

"NO, YOU shall NOT pass!"

"NO! YOU SHALL NOT PASS!"

"YOOOOOU SHALL NOT PASSSSS!"

"YOOOOOOOOOOU SHALL NOOOOOT PASSSSSSSSS!"

By now a crowd had formed and we were toe to toe, jabbing each other with our swords gently, trying to make the other back down. Then of course my fun was ruined when the guy who I took the props from came back and wrestled them from me and swifty walked away before I could retalliate.

Cameron seized the opportunity to grab me by the upper arm and dragged me away from the scene I had caused, his face beat red.

"Hey, don't give me that look, I was just having a little fun." I reached up and pinched his cheek, he quickly swatted my hand away. "Fine, be that way...Nerd." I huffed under my breath. I watched as he gave a breath of a laugh and rolled his eyes.

He took us over to the food court area and told me to sit down and wait while he gets the food. In other words he doesn't want me to cause anymore scenes. I may or may not have stuck my tongue out at him when he walked away...

He came back a while later with burgers, fries, and two milkshakes, one strawberry and one vanilla. I took my food from him and tossed him a 10 dollar bill but he shook his head and gave it back. I just shrugged and shoved it back into my pocket. I let my eyes wander around the food court and watched with amusement as people would walk around in their own fandom groups, occasionally sparring with one another.

"Wow, I didn't know people got so into these types of things." I watched a man walk past us with a very skimpy Princess Leia cosplay on. I let my eyes travel back and forth between Cameron and the man. "Yeah, I could totally see you wearing that."

I smirked as I watched Cameron choke on his vanilla milkshake. His face flushed as he began coughing violently. I began laughing uncontrollably at the sarcastic look he gave me when he recomposed himself.

"I am so not sorry." I gasped for more air between laughs.

We spent the rest of the day at the convention, Cameron bought a couple of things before we left. I'm sure he didn't miss the look I gave him when he grabbed a Star Wars poster that included Princess Leia in her..little outfit. Cameron had to spend most of the day pulling me away from situations that I probably would've made a scene in.

Overall, it was a really fun day. Probably the most fun I have had in a while. It was kind of dissapointing when we pulled up in front of Cameron's house to drop him off. I think Cameron was a bit dissapointed to.

"I had fun at your nerd convention." I poked at him with a grin on my face.

"Me too, thanks for the ride." And those words Cameron climb out of the truck and walk into his house.

It took me a few moments to realize. He didn't stutter at all.
