New York, 2006

The couple ran through the New York streets as the rain pelted down around them. The woman stared down at the baby in her arms. Her daughter looked like a little angel, she thought. As they rounded the corner she stopped short.

"Is this the place?" Her husband asked.

"Yes." She answered.

He rang the doorbell. The door was opened by a man. He had tinted blue skin and spikey hair.

"What brings you to my house in the middle of the night?" He asked tiredly. "You humans and your complete lack of time of day."

He stopped when he saw the woman.

"Dear god," He said, astonished, "Sophie, is that you?"

"Long time no see, Kalash." Sophie replied weakly.

Her husband coughed.

"Oh, right," Sophie said, flustered, "Kalash, may we come in?"

"Of course, of course." He replied as he gestured for them to enter.

"Now," Kalash said as they were all seated in the living room, "What brings you to me?"

"It's our daughter. We fear that she is a warlock." The man said.

"What's wrong with being a warlock? I've been one for 800 years and I've found the life quite passable", sniffed Kalash.

"My husband doesn't mean to offend you, Kalash, it's just that we want to keep out of the magic world and that will be hard considering that we are certain that our daughter is a warlock."

"If I guess correctly, you want me to turn your daughter into a human", Kalash said.

"You guess correctly." The man replied.

"If you must know, there is absolutely no way that I can turn her into a human." Kalash said bluntly.

"Please Kalash. You must be able to do something." Sophie pleaded.

Kalash looked thoughtful for a moment.

"There is one way. I won't be able to turn her into a human, but I can erase her memories." Said Kalash.

"Would she remember us?" Sophie asked worriedly.

"Of course! She would remember everything about her human life but absolutely nothing about her warlock life. You would have to come and see me every year so I can refresh the spell, though." Kalash said.

"But what if she stumbles across her powers?" Sophie's husband Mark asked, creasing his brow.

"I was coming to that." Kalash said irritated. "When she becomes a teenager her powers will slowly start to appear. Once that happens, you cannot come to me for help. There will be no way for me to erase her memories of her powers."

Sophie and Mark looked at each other. Was this a good idea? Depriving their daughter of her past? Mark slowly started to nod his head.

"We'll do it." They said together.

"Wonderful! I do need one more thing though. Her name."

"Her name is Maia. Maia Blackwood."
