The sun's rays peeked through the curtains, illuminating my face as I slowly stirred awake. I squinted my eyes from the brightness, and as I yawned, I sat up in my bed, feeling grateful for the comfortable accommodation Finn had provided me with.
I decided to get up and make breakfast as a gesture of appreciation. Walking into the kitchen, I made my way to the fridge. As I opened it, I noticed a note on it addressed to Finn from his mom, who had gone on a work trip and wouldn't be back for a month. The message was full of love, and she had left some money for food. I felt a sense of warmth in my heart at the sight of such a loving note.
I put the note down on the counter, thinking about how sweet it was. I decided to make homemade pancakes with eggs and bacon. As I was making the eggs, I heard footsteps. I turned around and saw a guy who looked like Finn, but older. He stopped abruptly in his steps, looking at me curiously.
"Who are you?" he asked in a slightly suspicious tone. "Uh, Y/n," I answered awkwardly. "And who are you?" He said slowly, "Nick...Finn's brother." I felt a bit nervous as I wasn't expecting to meet anyone other than Finn.
I saw Finn walking down the stairs and felt relieved. He said, "Oh Y/n...I forgot you were here." He then looked at Nick and said, "Oh, shit, sorry I forgot to introduce you two. Nick, this is my friend Y/n. Y/n, this is my brother Nick."
Nick nodded his head, giving me a slight wave. As we all settled down to eat the food I had prepared, the scent of something burning filled the air. I quickly turned around and realized that most of the bacon was burnt. I muttered under my breath, "Shit, shit, shit," as I moved the pan away from the stove.
Finn came up next to me and saw the pancakes and eggs. Then he saw the half-burnt bacon. I sighed, "Sorry about the bacon. It's burnt...." Finn shook his head, "Oh no, it's fine! I like it like that anyway." Finn took a piece and placed it in his mouth. I chuckled, "God, that's disgusting." "You're disgusting," he playfully said with bacon still in his mouth. I placed the plates down, scrunching my nose in disgust with a slight smile, "Finish eating before you talk."
Nick and Finn sat down and started to eat. They both smiled, looking over to me, "Holy shit this is good." I smiled, "Thanks."
As we finished our food, I went to clean the plates while Finn got up and said, "No, let me do it." I shook my head, "No, it's fine. I can do it." Finn grabbed the plate, not letting go. After a brief exchange, I let go of the plate and said, "Okay, knock yourself out."
He smiled and went to do the dishes, leaving me sitting on the couch with my thoughts. I couldn't help but reminisce about the past, thinking about the times I spent with Claire, my sister, and how much I missed her. Suddenly, I felt a poke on my shoulder.
I turned around to see Nick standing behind me. "Oh, sorry," I said, slightly embarrassed. "Did you say something?" Nick nodded his head and asked, "Yeah, I was asking where did you learn how to cook like that?"
I smiled at the question, grateful for the chance to talk about Claire. "My sister taught me," I said, my voice filled with fondness. "She was the best cook ever." Nick smiled and said, "Hopefully I get to meet her someday." With that, he stood up and said goodbye to Finn and me before heading out the door.
As I sat back down on the couch, I couldn't help but think about Claire again. Finn noticed my sadness and asked, "Is everything okay?" I looked at him and smiled weakly, "Yeah, it's just...my sister gave me this necklace," I said, pointing to the jewelry around my neck. "It's a reminder of her and I miss her a lot."
Finn seemed to understand and asked, "Do you want to talk about it?" I hesitated for a moment before nodding my head. I told him stories about Claire and how much she meant to me, tears streaming down my face.
Finn wrapped his arms around me, giving me a much-needed hug. It felt good to receive physical affection, and I couldn't help but feel grateful for Finn's kindness. He wiped away my tears and suggested, "Hey, let's go get some ice cream. It always cheers me up when I'm feeling down."
I smiled weakly, "That sounds nice." Finn grinned and said, "Great, I have some friends I want you to meet!" We both laughed, feeling a bit lighter than before. "But first," Finn said, looking down at our clothes, "let's get changed. Meet me back here when you're ready." I nodded, feeling grateful for Finn's friendship and support.
After we both went to our rooms to change, I took my time getting ready. I carefully picked out what to wear, opting for a cute brown skirt with a cream-colored brown sweater that I had thrifted. As I left my room and walked back to the living room, I could feel my heart beating a little faster than usual. I wasn't used to dressing up, but I wanted to look nice for Finn.
As soon as he saw me, he smiled and complimented me. "You look amazing. You should dress up more often," he said. I couldn't help but blush at his words. "Thanks," I replied, feeling a little self-conscious.
Finn took my hand and led me out the door. "Let's go," he said, his eyes shining with excitement. I couldn't help but smile. Ever since I met Finn, he had a way of making me feel special and cared for.
As we walked to the ice cream place, Finn chattered away, telling me about his day and making me laugh with his silly jokes. I felt my nerves start to dissipate as I relaxed into his company.
When we got to the ice cream shop, I noticed a group of boys and one girl sitting at a nearby table. My nerves returned, and I felt myself start to tense up. Finn noticed my discomfort and let go of my hand. "Don't worry," he said reassuringly. "They're just some friends of mine. Let me introduce you."
He walked over to the group and gave a friendly wave. I took a deep breath and followed him, trying to ignore the fluttering in my stomach. As we drew closer to the table, a boy with curly hair exclaimed, "Woah, who do we have here?!" I raised my hand and introduced myself, "Hi, I'm Y/n."
The group greeted me warmly. The girl with short red hair, Sophia, introduced the others, "This is Jack, Jaedan, Wyatt, Jeremy, and Chosen!" I smiled and waved at each of them in turn, feeling more at ease as the conversation flowed effortlessly.
As we chatted, I couldn't help but notice Jaedan's gaze lingering on me. He turned beet-red when our eyes met and quickly looked away. Oh boy...
