In Zarial lies the most prosperous kingdom of all; Aka, which for centuries has been under the rule of the Civilis family and is home to the most elite fighters known to humankind; the Shards. Not only is Aka famous for their brigades of soldiers, but for their medicine, inventions, and all around outstanding functionality. For a long time, Aka has lived in peace.

Peace, until they went against the neighboring kingdom of Zaru. In past years, any battle waged against Aka has been swiftly won, making them known as the strongest kingdom in Zarial. In Aka's last fight against Zaru, their most elite fighters -- the Crimson Shards -- were decimated by Zaru's superior tactics and fighters, and although Zaru was left defenseless, the Crimson Shards were no more. This left Aka's less-superior Death Shards to clean up the mess, and brought them a bittersweet victory home to Aka. Although they had won the war against Zaru, tensions still managed to be high, and suddenly Aka was left with very few warriors at a very inopportune time in Zarial's history.

The remaining Death Shards filled the position of the Crimson Shards, and the recently graduated Dragonfly Shards -- Aka's in-training forces -- managed to fill in the rest of the Saint and Relief Shards. This also gave way to Aka's new Crimson Alpha: Attia Civilis, the youngest Crimson Shard in history and the youngest Alpha as well. Despite all of this, however, the Death Shards were still left empty and vacant at a time where Zarial would need them most.

Currently under the rule of Empress Ellen Holz, the first non-Civilis to rule Aka, the kingdom faced many uncertainties in the trust of the Council. With the current issues regarding the Shards, however, most things went unnoticed and the Empress could get away with more than she had ever hoped, leading into a new era of uncertainty of The Shards Kingdom.

In Zarial however, the era was also changing. After the Picto Tree lost its Tokyanite, all seemed lost while suddenly the world was falling into chaos. It would take the most elite Shards in all history to be able to restore the world, but to be done before all has been lost.
