The monsters around aren't nearly as scary as the monsters inside
But that is a hard truth to admit
So we fight each other
And we scream our hatreds
That are really just fears in disguise
Until we are too tired and confused to lie anymore
And the only option is to look inward
Where we choose to avoid eye contact with our demons
And instead invite them back for another round
A chance to terrorize anyone or thing different
Because difference is abominable
Because difference is an easy target
That we will always focus our attention towards
Because we are cowards
Because if we find something wrong with them
Everything wrong with us looks a little smaller
But it isn't
It is simply blocked out
By the shadows of the fears
We cower in the face of
