Chapter 7

A night with the prince

Arjumand was already in her chamber when her consciousness came back.

"Do you want some water, my Lady?" one of her servants asked.

She only nodded to the servant and took the water silently.

Her hands were still shaking, for the memories of what happened earlier was still fresh in her mind. Every detail is vivid in her memories.

She looked up at the ceiling to prevent her tears from falling but she failed. She cannot really take it. What happened was too much for her to see.

She cannot imagine what kind of husband she will marry soon.

The prince was just too ruthless. Making the lady felt like a rabbit being lost in the lion's territory.

The door of her chamber opened and it was her aunt, the Empress, who walked in and sat next to her on the bed.

"I heard what happened," the Empress said.

The lady slowly looked at her aunt with her teary eyes.

"He could just punish them if they had offended him, he does not have to brutally kill them!" Arjumand said as her tears were flowing endlessly.

The Empress disappointedly stared her niece.

"Save your tears, Arjumand. They are just a bunch of slaves; they are not worth crying for. Remember your status, dear," the Empress said before she stands to take her to leave but before she finally exits the lady's chamber, Arjumand threw a question.

"Why is status so important? Can't we really live without it?"

The Empress smirked and raised her left brow.

"For power, dear. It's for your survival," the Empress said without looking Arjumand.

The lady chuckles.

"Because some people crave for power, a lot had suffered. How unfair this world," the lady told her servants but neither one of them responded to her idea.

Evening came and the lady ate her dinner alone in her chamber. While eating her dessert the lady suddenly remembered the Prince. She passed out earlier and didn't know who carried her back to her chamber.

"Did the prince carry me?" she asked herself.

The idea made her heart pump loud and fast and made her cheeks reddened.

She called one of her servants to ask what happened after she passed out but her excitements died the moment she heard that she was carried by another person.

Seems like the Prince didn't really care to her.

"You were so persistent to marry me back then, Khurram, but why are you ignoring me like you never liked me before?"

She sighed and shook her head.

To release the burden she's feeling, the lady decided to go to the garden to take some fresh air. But, Arjuman wanted to leave when she saw Khurram standing in the garden as he enjoyed the brightness of the moon.

She wants to tell her servants she wanna go back but she was too late, for her servants already greeted the Prince.

Khurram immediately noticed them but his gaze landed to the beautiful young lady. Arjumand noticed his gaze and it just made her heart pump louder like it was about to explode. She didn't know why she's feeling like this. Does she develop hatred to the Prince that is why her heart is erratically pumping?
