Chapter 4 - In the woods
“Ouch, I think my back broke.” Miley whined. She tried to redress herself while I was focusing and observing my environs.
“Julia! Help me here! I can’t move!” Her harsh tone rose. I turned around and noticed she was in a struggle. Surely her back cracked during the transportation. I had to remind myself that I wasn’t on my own. My laughter couldn’t stop from growing. I couldn’t help it.
“Stop exaggerating. Your back isn’t ruined.” I joked around. I gave her a hand and she was finally able to walk normally. “Be careful next time.” I added. She rolled her eyes.
Our first instinct was to look around. I already establish some clues while my fellow friend tried to figure out how to stop the unpleasing pain. The first thing I noticed may be the fact we were stranded in the obscure woods.
You may wonder; why we’re stranded in the forest? Ask the unknown and the unexplained box.
I slowly twirled around several times to observe what was nearby. Trees as tall as six story buildings were set on the humid soil. Vivid fresh green leaves were delicately glues on the muddy brown branches. Several animals wandered on the ground. When they saw us, they immediately found a spot to hind in fear we might attack them.
How did we get here? The suspicious box usually sets us around the center of the city. The habitat and the dangerous animals which might be hidden behind the bushes didn’t really occupy me-Locating the box in the middle of the woods seemed impossible.
“Holy apple pie.” Miley gasped. She probably knew where the box placed us, but she didn’t want believe it.
“We’re certainly in the woods.” I answered while admiring the lovely tulips shining with the help of the glowing autumn sun.
“How on earth are we going to find that annoying box?” She huffed.
“I have no clue.” I slowly answered still gazing at what us above me and around me.
“Oh no, this is not good. I can’t stay in a muggy place. I’m going get all messy.” She complained.
“Stop being a fuss Miley. We won’t determine the location of the box if you help me,” I grabbed her wrist. “Now let’s try and find that box.”
She didn’t pronounce a word. So, there we were exploring the foreign woods.
Among all the worries and thoughts I had to live with daily since the journey with the box, I had a pure serenity during the walk in the woods. The rustle of the stale leaves beneath my feet were soothing. I heard the repetitive drumming of a woodpecker in the trees and the familiar noise of creatures in the bushes. The forest was bursting with life. Squirrels leapt from branch to branch, bees hummed from flower to flower, rodents and reptiles and a large variety of birds all nestled together in an oversized happy community. There were not too many dangerous and disgusting bugs, this time a year, and for that I am grateful.
Astonishingly, Mileys mood was quite relaxing. She was in awe of all the living creature and plants encircling her. This stroll wasn’t dreadful as I thought it would be.
“This is adorable! Julia come quickly!” I heard a piercing voice coming from several feet away. I shoved several prickly branches and there I saw Miley carrying a baby monkey.
Those big circular brown eyes made me in love with him at first sight. “Wow! He’s so cute!” I said in awe. Miley began caressing his miniature head. Surprisingly, he seemed to appreciate it. I followed her and did the same movements.
