Once

Saitama woke up to begin his daily routine of killing monsters around the city.

There was a giant with one eye, called the Cyclops Pirate, whom he defeated within a second. A mugger was brought to the police, along with a serial rapist. A homophobic parade was shut down due to some mysterious tremors, believed to be a monster's foot steps.

So after a day of monsters being defeated, humane evil doers brought down to the hands of justice, and groceries bought, Saitama returned to his apartment.

Though on his way back, he met Mumen Rider by chance. The said hero was fighting a monster in the centre of a crowd, who desperately tried to support the man by screaming.

Quite bizarre really...

His enemy was a creature with eight eyes and the legs of an octopus and a spider. Four legs for each animal, specifically. Namely, this monster was an Arachnoctopi.

"I've got no idea why you're a hero, Mumen Rider! You're absolutely powerless!" The monster jeered, getting boos from the crowd.

"Well, anyone can be a hero if they've got that sense of justice." A voice interrupted, clearer and louder than the rest.

"Who said that!" The creature, who until a second ago had Mumen hanging upside down, dropped the hero onto his neck, and searched for the origin of the voice.

"I did." Saitama walked forward, and the people parted like the red sea.

"Well, I don't know who you are, but you dare have the nerve!" One of the eight tentacles grabbed Saitama's leg in attempt to pick him up like he had done with Mumen Rider, but failed miserably. "What have you done??"

"Nothing."

"Then why aren't you coming off the ground!"

"I'm not sure. Maybe it's just because you're too weak." Saitama glared at the spider octopus hybrid with hatred. Mumen was a friend. And this fiend had injured his friend.

With a growl, the octopus legs pulled at Saitama with it's extreme suction. Gasping with shock and awe, the crowd looked at the fight between the myth and the man. A few decided to record this as well, live streaming on YourTube.

Much to the audience's astonishment, Saitama didn't move.

He just stood there, his arms crossed and shoulders squared.

Looking at a few of the arachnid eyes, Saitama kept his ground.

The views on the video had hit well over a thousand in the couple of seconds, and Saitama stubbornly stayed on the ground. After a while, the ground beneath him began to give way, so Saitama lifted each foot, one at a time to dig his feet deeper into the ground, making shoe-sized craters as if he were on the moon.

Some watching the video began to comment things, doubting it's candour, but they were retorted by the other viewers how it would be unnecessary to have Mumen Rider in it if it were a lie.

The octopus eventually gave up on relying on it's infundibulum, and tried to wack the hero away, but Saitama swiftly dodged.

The video zoomed in on the foot step craters, and more comments talked about how it would make Saitama incredibly strong to be able to do that.

With it's final growl of frustration, the Spider doubled in size. It was now roughly the size of a yellow school bus in America. The octopus part of it became scarlet red, and the eight eyes become sickly yellow. The half of the arachnid legs became more furry and bushy, and the suction disks became larger.

The monster shot out a web as thick as a human's neck, and the announcement told them that the threat level was Tiger.

Still videoing the entire fight, the yourtuber climbed up a building, and from his safe spot, reported the scene with great interest.

Now the web was getting larger and larger, making the entire city it's trap, and home.

Much to Saitama's annoyance, no heroes were arriving. But what Saitama didn't know was that the hero association had made an announcement to all heroes, not to go to Saitama's aid.

The head of the hero association was watching the fight leisurely at home, hoping to see a great fight.

People were getting stuck in the webs as they tried to run away, and each time they got stuck, the monster would wrap them around in silk and octopus ink.

Fed up with debating whether he should reveal his strength or save the city, Saitama ran forward towards the monster who was about to feast upon the first human it had caught. It seemed that the octopus ink had effects to quicken the softening process.

The camera followed the hero, who punched the spider/octopus.

Expecting a much longer fight, all the people began to cheer the hero on, but when they found the giant monster dead, it's intestines strewn all over the place, silence followed.

There was a gaping hole in the monster's abdomen, and a yellow something oozed out of the creature.

Still in silence, the hero jumped away from the mess, and ripped the spider silk apart, surprising the scientists who were watching the video.

Spider silk is one of the strongest materials on earth. You can't simply rip it apart like that... A material that could stop a bullet was pulled into pieces with a simple tug.

The victims were saved from the cocoon, and much to everybody else's surprise, the man continued to help the victims, including Mumen Rider, rather than call the ambulance and leaving them there, like most Heroes did.

He placed them all in the same position, all of them rolled to the side, their underside arms supporting their position. Their upper leg extended like their arm for the same reason.

He proceeded to rip a part of his own cloak off, and rolled it up, placing it behind their back's so they won't roll backwards. He then tilted their head's back, and placed their upper hand under their necks to support their own heads.

He also ripped some of his cloak off and wrapped it around Mumen Rider's face, which was bleeding non stop after a sharp rock had punctured his cheek when he was dropped by the dead monster.

Saitama stayed by Mumen Rider, constantly applying pressure to the wound until someone called the ambulance.

Amazed by the unknown hero's knowledge in first aid, the viewers all called the ambulance, only to be told that there were already enough ambulances headed his way. The people behind the receivers wondering why so many people were calling in to help people who were injured by a monster.

Five ambulances arrived, and the injured civilians were later told that they would've been in critical condition if it weren't for Saitama's quick wit.

That day was the game changer.

For the first time in his life, he was recognised as a hero. Getting thank-you and fan letters, along with a bright smile when he went shopping.

For once, he felt accepted.

For once, he felt relaxed.

But also, for once. He felt insecure.
