Mey Rin was used to being awake first. Though most thought her to be the clumsy ditz, she actually did most of the housekeeping in the flat she shared with her girlfriend, Ran Mao. Fitting, as she did that for a day-job as well. Mey's day typically started earlier than Ran's anyway, and she knew as soon as Ran got to the boutique she practically ran, the day would get tiring for her. Mey Rin wasn't the best chef, but she was good at making eggs and toast, so that's what she made in the mornings. She also made sure to add a serving in a small container so Ran's close friend and boss had something to eat. Goodness knows Lau never had anything proper in his kitchen. The little food he does have are all edibles. He doesn't even have proper tea anymore, the only box he had was marijuana. Perhaps they should send a box of Earl Gray over. Goodness knows there is more than enough, seeing as Mey Rin always ended up taking leftover loose teabags home from work. Perhaps she shall send some to Lau. He's always giving Ran Mao clothing, after all. What harm could it do.
As Mey was frying the eggs to make a nice scrambled mess, her beloved Ran trudged out of their bedroom, still wearing one of Mey's baggy sleep shirts. Her long black hair was in two low ponytails held with fluffy pink scrunchies. For a reason Mey was never able to understand, Ran almost never slept in pants unless it was the cat onsie she'd gotten. Sometime during the night, Ran had seemingly lost one of her fuzzy socks too, so she stood in the bedroom doorway with one sock and a big sleep shirt featuring a cat napping on a crescent moon, rubbing her eyes and yawning the sweetest little yawn Mey had ever seen. Smiling fondly, Mey turned her attention back to the frying pan in front of her. Shortly after, she felt two thin arms around her waist. Ran rested her head on Mey's shoulder and mumbled a soft "G'morning."
"Good morning, my darling," Mey leaned her head to the side as to rest her own head on Ran's. "Breakfast is nearly ready, so why don't you wash up a bit and I'll get it fixed up for you?" In response, Ran nodded as best she could without picking her head up and gave her partner a small squeeze before releasing her hug and shuffling away to wash her face and brush her hair and teeth. The eggs finished cooking, and nearly on cue, the toaster popped up with two pieces of lightly browned bread. Mey set two plates out, split the eggs and toast between the two, and grabbed the marmalade for her own setting. When Ran joined her at the table, her hair was brushed and styled into her favourite twin bun style, and she had found her other sock. She gave Mey a quick peck on the cheek and took her seat at the kitchen island next to her girlfriend.
"I made a serving for Mr. Lau, if he should want it, so take that and a few handfuls of teabags over, won't you?" Ran nodded in response, taking a bit of overbaked bread. "Wonderful, thank you, my love." Mey gave Ran a kiss on the cheek as a smaller thank you.
The two did not say much over food, but neither felt the need too. They listened to the bustling city outside and the low music Mey had turned on to cook too. There truly was no better way to spend a morning.
Once the food was finished and the dishes in the sink, the two returned to their shared bedroom to get dressed. Ran slipped out of her stolen nightshirt and into a silk lavender qi pao made by Lau, her boss, while Mey buttoned a clean white shirt and black housemaid's dress. Make no mistake, Vincent allowed all staff to wear the skirt or trouser uniform as they pleased, but Mey loved the feeling of a twirly petticoat and dress. She adored the swish when she turned, and often wore flared skirts on her days off too.
The two left hand in hand to walk toward Mey's workplace, a large hotel near the centre of the city owned by Vincent Phantomhive, who lived and worked in the top floor penthouse with his husband, known to many as the Undertaker.
