Ran Mao had nothing left to do in the boutique other than keep watch for customers. The shop was cleaner than anything, all the items for sale were neatly arranged, the mirrors and windows had been wiped down, and even the fitting room with measuring tapes and pen with pad had been organised and vacuumed.
Slow days like this when nothing was left to do was why Lau refused to hire any help other than Ran herself.Lazily leaning on the counter, she idly scrolled through the news, through Pinsta, and the entire roll of "Articles For You" on the bottom of that new tab on Chrome. Nothing extraordinary for her to note, except a few depressing new facts about the world, some anime updates, and BeeFeed trying to feed her a new weird quiz. Last time she tried that, she was called a boomer because of her Disney knowledge, so that was given an eye roll. Ok BeeFeed. Somehow, she ended up on a restaurant website. Maybe it was lunchtime for Ran, but something caught her eye. Pride Month Package, huh? Bring your significant other and receive a free dessert just by being you, and let your rainbow flag fly. Cute. There was some fine text too, saying you had to bring the significant other and some sort of flag or otherwise identifying item such as a pin, shirt, yada, yadda, but Ran Mao was sure a kiss would suffice. Though, Lau may still have that one design in the bisexual colours, and she knew Mey Rin had a skirt with the lesbian colours in tiered ruffles, so any merch wouldn't be hard. Free dessert, huh? It didn't say how much free dessert would be, nor whether there were any limitations, so that would be a call. Lau could make that phone call. Especially if she told him about it, he would want to take his new almost boyfriend Kiku down, and probably tell Vincent about it because even though Mr. Phantomhive is Tony Stark levels of rich, he's also frugal and likes free things.
No matter what, Ran Mao can get the information without speaking, which was always a plus. Discreetly, she sent a link to Lau, who was upstairs above the shop and sleeping off a hangover. Afterwards, she decided to open up her lunchbox. Mey Rin had packed it adorably, as always. A note on the lid had a cat doodle with the words "Purractically Purrfect" written in familiar blocky handwriting. Sandwiches cut into the shape of a cat today, with little carrot whiskers and a shelled hardboiled egg with more small carrot bits to define it as a paw. The rest of the carrot was in a cupcake wrapper underneath the paw, as if it were a little ball being played with, and some other vegetables were cut into stars and flowers in the empty space. The whole thing was so adorable, Ran couldn't help but smile.
Yep. Ran Mao was taking this amazing woman to dinner as her partner. This is it. This is the one. She deserves a break from cooking, she deserves the cute clothes and the fancy dinner, and the free dessert. Mind made up, Ran Mao sent a simple text to Mey Rin to thank her.
"Lunch is adorable again today flower ily"
Adorable and quite yummy, as well.
