I flip through the book in my hands looking for a way to win over the other kids at Auradon. I know Evie wouldn't be a fan of this idea but she has no idea how hard it is. Everyone just gravitates towards her. I mean aside from Prince Charming, but he was an asshole. Everyone else loved her, especially the new boy whose been hanging around her, whatever his name is.

"I'll take that." A voice says before snatching the book right out of my hands. Pouting I look up to see Evie standing in front of me. "Put the pout away." She says tossing the book onto her bed. "You are not going to use some spell to make everyone like you."

I sigh loudly. "Why not? It'll be much easier."

Evie shrugs her shoulders. "We knew coming here would be hard but we came for a better life." She sits beside me and wraps her arm around my shoulder. "Let's leave the past in the past okay? We need to be good."

I slightly nod my head agreeing with her. "It's just, they don't make it easy."

"Sounds like someone I know." Evie smiles towards me. "It will work out in the end M. Just give it time." She squeezes my shoulder one more time before heading towards her desk.

I instantly miss her presence beside me and lay back against my bed. "I don't have the patience for this." I say loudly.

"What do you have patience for?" Jay says laughing as he enters our room, Carlos in pursuit.

"What happen to knocking?" I say glaring at them.

"Never did it in the Lost Island"

"Won't do It here." Carlos said finishing Jays sentence.

I roll my eyes. "I need some fresh air." As I walk by Carlos I quickly mess with his hair before running out the door.

Twirling my phone in my hand I debate if I should call her. We didn't end on great terms but I really wanted to hear her voice. Shaking my nerves away I dial her number.

"Hello?" The voice says groggily.

"Uma!" I say shocked she answered.

"What do you want?" She says annoyed.

"I just wanted to talk to you. How are you?" I say calmly.

"Did you really just ruin my nap for this? Mal I don't want to talk to you. Didn't I make that clear?"  She says.

"I know but I wanted to say-"

"Didn't you say enough that night? I'm clearly not good enough for you."

"That's not why I called Uma." I say defensive.

"Why did you call?"

I sigh. "It's just.." I pause for a second. "It's So hard here Uma. No one is given me a chance. They judge me because I'm the child of villains."

"You judged me for being a pirate. What makes you think you deserve to be treated any differently?"

"No- that's not true. I'm trying to be better. I told you-"

"I don't care Mal. I really don't."

Without letting me get another word out she hung up on me. Annoyed I throw my phone.

"Ow!" Someone yells. I look up and see Ben walking towards me rubbing his head.

"Sorry." I say taking my phone from his hands. "I didn't mean to."

He nods. "I know. What's wrong?" He says sitting beside me.

I don't answer him and instead just stare off in the distance.

"It's okay," He says nudging me softly. "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to."

"It's just complicated." I mutter.

"Well." Ben says clapping his hands. "Lets get your mind off of things. Care to see more of Auradon?"

I mean why not ? I have nothing better to do.

"Sure." I stand up. "Let's see what this place is really about."

"And this," Ben says turning to me with a gleam in his eye. "Is my favorite view from Auradon." We are on a balcony and you can see the whole view of the kingdom. As well as my old home far away in the distance but clear as day.

"Wow." I breathe out. "It's beautiful." I stare down and can see all the other kids walking around with their books, talking and laughing. I even see Jane in the back, against a tree reading a books. I smile.

"Welcome home." He whispers softly next to me. My smile fades and my eyes get drawn to my real home. With the dark cloud high above the buildings, I can feel a small tug in me to want to cross and go back over. To walk down the Grungy streets, dirty floor, to hear everyone yelling at each other from time to time. To hear the pitiful cries of kids who only want a better life, but do their best everyday to just survive. To see Uma. The feisty girl who would constantly steal from me, our constant battles that usually ended in a fits of laughter. Us running in the streets, sharing stolen moments no one could ever replace. I glance towards Ben.

"Do you miss it?" He asks placing his hand slightly on my arm.

"It was my home Ben." I lean against the railing, glancing towards there and where I stand.

He nods. "I know. You must miss it."

I nod my head. "I do." I sigh loudly and slightly smile up at him. "I appreciate everything I have here though." I place my hand on his arm. "I have you to thank for that."

He smiles widely and pulls me into a quick hug. "Thanks for being such a good example of what can come from the Island." I fall into his hug for a moment before pulling away.

"I should get back to my friends." I smile at him before walking away.

--

As soon as I enter  my dorm room Evie enfolds me into a hug. "Hey to you too." I say laughing.

Evie smiles at me. "I missed my friend." I smile back at her. "How could I ever miss the Island when everything I want is right here." I whisper hugging her tightly.

"Our new life." She whispers. "You, me, Carlos and Jay. The VK kids, taking over."

I laugh, "Who are rotten,"

"To the core." She says pulling away from me.

I hear a ring from my phone and look down at who messaged me.

UMA: I missed your voice.

My heart flutters for a moment.

Uma: I hate the feeling almost as much as I hate you.

I feel tears prick at the corners of my eyes.

"You okay M?"  Evie says confused.

I nod my head, "Like you said, we have to leave our past in our past."
