Since little kids aren't familiar with the concept of 'sleeping in', we wake up to a jumping, yelling kid on our bed that morning.
"Jake get OFF", I yell. David groans and turn around. Nice going, babe. He sits down between us and looks at me.
"I'm booored", he says.
"Go play with Dolly", I respond with a yawn.
"Dolly only wants to throw balls."
"Get over here then", I say and pull him in my arms. David suddenly comes back to life, rolls over and hugs the both of us. But Jake doesn't seem to like the idea of a cuddly morning because he wrestles himself free and leaves the room saying: "I'm going to watch some tv."
I roll on my other side, into Davids arms and kiss him.
I groan: "Ugh, tomorrow is Monday."
He shuts me up with a kiss: "Don't think about that yet love. First we have a Sunday to spend together."
"True. I have to prepare classes though."
"That's okay, how about we go to the park and we can sit on the terrace and Jake can play. We can bring Dolly too. Oh and we can lunch there."
I smile. "Sounds great, honey."

Two hours later we're driving to the park, me with my laptopbag and papers, David trying to calm down Dolly in the back seat, Jake asking if he can have pancakes.
"Obviously", his dad responds.
"No", I say, "you can't."
David looks at me with betrayal in his eyes. I laugh. Him and his pancakes.
"It's Sunday. I'm making them tonight."
"Oh, right, even better."

It's a nice day. I'm casually preparing classes and reading assignments, David appears at the table every now and then because he's playing with Jake and Dolly. Sometimes I stop working for a moment to watch the three of them. It makes me so happy to see my small family having fun together. When it's time to go home, I almost have to carry Jake, Dolly ánd David to the car. They're all so tired, it's adorable. When we get home I start making the pancakes. For some reason David decides it's a good idea to cover me in flour, so obviously I have to take revenge. Both covered in flour we bake the pancakes together with him and his flipping skills.

After dinner, Jake suddenly appears with Dolly and Twister. It's the most fun we've had all week. We take our turns spinning the board while the other two are trying not to die on the mat. Dolly tries to play along but doesn't really understand what she's supposed to do, which makes it even more adorable. After a few games it's bedtime for Jake, so we all go upstairs. Dolly lies down at the end of his bed. I kneel down besides him, turn on his light and give him a rub over his head. David sits down next to Dolly and pets her.
"I love you honey, you know that?"
"We", David corrects me.
"Yes. We."
"I love you too mom and dad", Jake says.
I smile, get up and take your hand. We start waking towards the door.
"Goodnight sweetie. Come on Dolly."
Dolly jumps off the bed and runs downstairs in front of us, her tail wagging happily. When we're on the couch, I give you a big hug and bury my face in your neck.
"And I love you", you whisper.
"I love you too. I really do."

I go to sleep that night happy, whole, and with your arms around me. Just as it should be.
