"Oh." Harry's mother was out of words yet again. The person that is the most help to them just told the she needed to resign.
"I'm sorry, Ms. Cox, but it's really important."
"Yeah. Yeah, I um... I understand. Yeah, I hope you have a safe flight to Boston." Anne, Harry's mum, tried to smile but she was too worried about her only son to do anything.
"Thank you. I hope you'll find someone. Harry's a really good child and I'm sure there will come someone around the corner."
"Yeah, I hope so too. Well, uh... thanks for telling me about it all."
"Well, good bye." The lady, or Harry's ex-translator, stood up with Anne following her. Anne showed her to the door and once closing it, she let out a worried sigh.
You see, Anne is a single mother to a boy named Harry. And the only thing that makes everything harder than it should be is Harry having a disability. He can't hear, he's completely deaf. And that makes it hard for him to survive when outside the house premises, even inside.
Being a single and a working mother, Anne can't always be there with Harry to help him. She needs to feed him, pay the bills, get him clothes and all the necessities of life and having Harry around with her all of that makes it all hard.
Not that she doesn't love her son, she loves him more than anything. And that is exactly why she needs to be sure of him being safe and sound.
She walked up the stairs and to Harry's room. Opening the door, she saw Harry sitting by the window, arms laid on the sill and chin rested on them, as he gazed out.
She walked closer to him having Harry turn around after sensing her presence. Being deaf had his other senses pop out better. Harry had a great sense of smell and his brain worked fast at picking up things and joining the dots to given situations.
She smiled at Harry, trying to hide the sadness, but failing, as she approached him, moving his curly brown hair away from his eyes.
"She left?" Harry signed to Anne.
She sighed and nodded slowly, not knowing how he would take it. This has happened numerous times before that the hired translator has to quit and by the time, Harry would have gotten too attached to them. It always hurt him and his mother was never a fan of seeing him sad.
Harry just turned away and back to his previous position, taking in the blue sky and the peaceful environment of his backyard. Anne gives him a pat and kiss on the head and silently leaves the room, not that it would actually make a difference to her son.
She walked down to the living and sat on the couch, thinking about what to do to help her son as quickly as possible, just in time for the phone to ring. She sighed and picked it up, not bothering to look at the number displayed.
"Hello?"
"Hello, Anne. It's me, Sarah."
"Yeah, how are you?" Anne replied, without an effort to sound cheerful like Sarah, her old friend.
"I've been good. Seems like you haven't. Did something happen?"
"The translator quit. Again." She heard Sarah click her tongue on the other end.
"I'm sorry. I wish I could help."
"Yeah, well I don't know what to do. Monday is in two days and I gotta head to work. I can't leave Harry alone."
"...Maybe I can help you. Does a twenty two year old boy sound good for the job?" Sarah asked after recalling something.
"I-I guess. I mean, we have to meet him and see if Harry doesn't have a problem with him and stuff. Why?"
"I might have a person in sight. Remember the brunette from across my street?"
"The one that helped with my flat tire?"
"Exactly! That's the one. His mum mentioned to me about him wanting to do something alike. Want me to talk to them?"
"Oh. That'd be lovely, Sarah. When can we meet him?"
"I don't know. But I'll have you know by later this evening, alright?"
"Thank you so much. Thank you. It'd be a huge stress off my shoulders." Anne finally smiled that reached her eyes.
Hopefully, Harry wouldn't have any sort of difficulty in communicating with him because that's the main criteria to be filled by the person.
