Mercy: Thank you. [happy] I am glad you love it.
Host: Can you tell us more about it?
Mercy: Okay. "Behind close doors" means a lot to me. It's basically about my life story which I wanted to share with people around the world. To give hope to people going through similar problems like I did.
Host: I had the chance to read a couple of chapters and I must confess it's deep. How do you feel writing your life story and sharing it with the world?
Mercy: To be honest, I never wanted to write any story about myself but one day, it hit me. "What if there are people going through similar situations like I did or even worst? What if they think there's no hope?". So, I went into my office to start writing something.I didn't know how to begin at first but I tried. It took me a lot of trials to begin.
(Audience clapped)
Host: You all have to grab a copy of it. It's really a great book there's a lot to learn from it. (Talking to the audience).
Mercy: Thank you (smiling)
Host: Where is it sold at?
Mercy: At Divine Publications and Amazon but it'll soon be out in all bookshops.
(Audiences cheered)
Host: Please give as a summary of "Behind closed doors"
Mercy: "Behind closed doors" talks about how I struggled growing up. I used to live with my dad's friend because my mum was struggling to make ends meet after the death of my father. Living with his friend wasn't quite easy for me. I was made to do all the hard work at home from laundries, cooking, cleaning to even bathing the kids at home. His wife made my life a living hell and it got to the point I had enough of it so, I ran away. I knew it would be a bad idea to go back to my mum's home. This made me decide to live on the streets. I lived on the streets for almost three years of my life. I was having different jobs trying to gather money to continue my education. During that period, I made some friends on the streets who accepted me into their home. They introduced me to prostitution because they knew it was the quickest way to get money. I was contemplating before but, I later accepted their offering. I was into prostitution for a couple of months until I gave up and I knew if they found out I wasn't working at dawn anymore they will kick me out so, I had to ran away. I joined a church missionaries which I was totally accepted. I was introduced to Christ. Months later, the Pastor began to show interest in me. He kept demand for sex everyday but I said no but one night when his wife wasn't at home, he sneaked into my room and raped me. I didn't know who to tell because no one would believe my story. Some weeks later, his wife realised my tummy began growing big and questioned me. I kept this humiliation to myself and I decided not to speak. They sacked me from the missionary saying, "You will be bring shame to the church. Please leave". I was back to the streets once again but this time, I had enough money on me to rent an apartment to take care of myself and my unborn baby. [ long pause] That's all I can say for now .[smiling]
(She knew she had left her audience in suspense)
Host: I'm glad I have my copy already [laughing]. It was great having you on this show with us.
Mercy: I'm delighted to have been here.
Host: We are going on a short break and we will be back.
(The audience clapped. The host showed his appreciation to Mercy for showing up and many audience wanted to ask Mercy a lot of questions but she had limited time to answer since she had another show to attend. She rushed and changed into another outfit organised by her manager).
Manager Lisa: You did a great job.
Mercy: Thank you. Where next?
Manager Lisa: You have another show at Jacobs Live Show.
Mercy: How many hours do I have left ?
Manager Lisa: Three hours. It's quite far so we have to get going.
(Mercy sat in the van and the driver sped off to avoid traffic. It was a stressful week for Mercy who was promoting her story. She sold out thousands of copies within weeks and she was glad her hard work paid off. Saturday morning as she was resting, her son Victor who is fifteen walked into her bedroom).
