The Survey Corps.

I hid behind a wall, my heart pumping furiously as loud thuds of the footsteps of the titans filled my ears. Out of all the days, why did I have to get ganged up on today? I breathed a heavy sigh before running once more. Running was the only way I was going to get away from the titans. And I was not going to give up on my starving sister now. She was going to die if I didn't get her the food she needed. I wouldn't have been chased right now if humanity hadn't been so stupid and didn't protect Wall Rose, allowing it to be breached by the titans. I continued running for my life, not daring to look behind me to see whether I was still being chased or not. Which I didn't have to guess soon enough as one attacked the ground, causing me to fly up in the air and fall onto the ground. Somehow managing to keep the food clutched in my arms I scurried up onto my feet and continued to run with everything I had. A pain surged through my left calf as I ran. "Just ignore it, just ignore it, you're almost there." I kept telling myself through the immense pain the running caused me. The fall must have been pretty harsh if my calf had hurt this much. But the thought of knowing my sister was growing hungrier by the minute kept me going.

Continuing to run past all the abandoned buildings and houses brought back memories. Good and bad memories that I wasn't sure if I wanted to forget or not. One of the buildings reminded me of when my family and I went out for dinner and my dad accidentally fell into a table of food. That was one of the only times I ever laughed to the point where my stomach hurt. Was it so much to ask to have those times come back? To erase the existence of titans and let us rejoice in peace? To explore the unseen parts of the world? It seemed as if it was. We couldn't go a day without living in fear. And that was the most sad part about living in the walls. Fear.

I shook the thoughts and memories from my head while I ran. Memories weren't going to get me anywhere right now. I just had to keep running until I got back to the house and get into the tunnel with Maho. Then we could eat and rest before I went out the next day to get more food from the buildings I haven't searched. Maybe even take a trip into Wall Rose or Wall Sina and try and steal from a stall. Sometimes it got to that point if I couldn't find anything for us to eat. My thoughts were suddenly interrupted when the ground was attacked yet again by a titan. This time I was sent flying back against a wall, falling to the ground on my knee's. I gulped as I looked up from the ground and saw something that wasn't unfamiliar. The distorted, crazy face of a titan which had filled my nightmares every time I dared to sleep. Was this it? Was I going to die here so willingly like this? I couldn't. This would bring shame to me and the rest of my family. But I had not choice. There was no way to escape the grasp of this titan. I let my body become loose as I embraced death like an old friend. My house which led to the tunnel was only a few minutes away. I was so close.

"I'm sorry Maho..." I whispered to myself as I closed my eyes and pursed my lips together. But something unexpected happened. Instead of being picked up off the ground so harshly by the grip of a titan, a body crashed down beside me. The ground beneath me shook as that happened and I opened my eyes. I looked beside me and saw the body of the titan that was going to kill me beside me. In no time the body began to deteriorate. What happened? I raised my eyebrows as I picked myself up from the floor and gathered up the food that had fallen out of my arms, ignoring the pain that my calf was giving me.

"Captain Levi!" A voice called in the distance. I looked towards the body of the titan and saw a figure of a man approach out of the smoke that the titan was producing. He looked more surprised than me. My eyes widened as I realized he was looking at me with confusion. Which I understood. After five years, how did a civilian get into Wall Maria?

"Who..." He began to speak before being cut off by the same voice from before.

"Captain Levi! Are you okay!?" The voice becoming louder as she approached. I wasn't going to waste anymore time. I couldn't talk to people from the inner walls. They were going to make me come with them if I stayed here any longer. Pushing aside the pain my calf gave me I turned around and began to run towards my house, ignoring the calls from the people behind me. I may have been injured but I was fast. More fast than anyone expected a small girl like me to be. I got to my house more sooner than expected and dashed down the ladder that lead down to the tunnel and ran over towards the place that Maho and I had set up. I saw here lying in the bed we had built for her reading an old book. But upon hearing my arrival her head popped up from the book and looked over at me. She sprung up from her bed and flung her arms around me.

"Oh my god, Rosie are you okay??" Maho gulped, looking over me. I must have looked like a mess.

"Yes, yes I'm fine. I got the food though. I'll tell you about after I clean myself up, okay?" I said to her, recieveing a nod. "Good."

After I had spent fifteen minutes cleaning myself up and changing into a pair of clean pants and button up shirt, I began to pick out the rocks that stuck into my calf. It seemed that a large rock cut down my calf, causing the immense pain. But I got it out eventually and wrapped it up with a bandage. Now I just had to wait for it to heal. With the amount of food I bought back though, we would have enough to last us until I got better. Maho and I sat on the floor, our backs leaned up against the walls of the underground tunnel, eating the soup I made earlier that evening.

"So, what happened back there?" Maho asked curiously. I sighed softly and ran my fingers through my hair.

"Wall Rose got breached by the titans." I said in a small voice. I looked over at Maho's scared expression, her eyes wide with shock.

"What do you mean? How could Wall Rose get breached?" Maho stuttered out.

"I mean, humanity was stupid enough to let this happen again. This time, I hope they have a plan to save the people in that wall unlike last time." I replied back in an annoyed tone. I was annoyed at mankind. This had already happened once, how could we let it happen again so easily?

"Did...anything else happen?" She asked softly.

"I got attacked twice. I made it out though. I was safe. But Maho, we have to be more careful around here now okay? Scouts are scavenging Wall Maria more frequently now. I know because... I came face to face with one today."

"Shit...Okay. We'll stay in here until your leg gets better and then we'll hunt for food together next time okay? You get some rest though. I'll clean up." Maho said in a sincere voice, taking my bowl from me and walking over to the large bucket of water where we washed all the dishes this week. I smiled over at her. She had grown up so much since the first attack. She was more mature for her age and much stronger. Didn't mean I still worried about her constantly. We were safe in the tunnel but when we had to go outside... we weren't.

I picked myself up from the ground and limped over to my bed, collapsing onto it and stared up at the ceiling. I didn't realize how tired I was until now. My body relaxed as I began to close my eyes, almost going into a deep sleep.

Until the trap door leading into our house began to rattle.
