It had been five years since I was adopted at the age of thirteen, so you could just imagine all the fun I had going through that process and after all of that work, to end up with people like this. “Hey girly, want to have some fun?” The alcohol on his breath was unbearable. You disgust me. I had two options: Spit in his face and run before he could kill me or comply. I’m not as easy as you think old man. I made a new option for myself. Fight. I kicked him right where the sun never shines and after that, elbow his face, where I heard his jaw crack under the pressure.

Every fiber in my body was telling me to run before Mother came into the fight. No. Not today, I’m going to win this here and now! I heard her screams coming down the stairs, but I kept beating at him, watching the blood come out of his nose and mouth. She pulled on my hair and dragged me away from him. Sheesh. She’s strong for an old lady. “You are going back downstairs young lady!” Oh no, please anything but that. “Terry!” She screamed at Father, as he grabbed a hold of my kicking feet, spreading them slightly apart to indicate that he wasn’t done with me yet. Please…anyone. Help me. I scream with all my might, but it was no use. We lived in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by a forest you could get lost in within five minutes. My mother unlocked the door to downstairs aka The Hell Hole. This was where I went for punishment. Stuck in a cage, surrounded by screams and blood. The ultimate place of torture and chaos…a place worse than death. “Take all the time you need to think about what you did girly.” He chained me to the cold, damp wall and locked the door. It was just me, in the darkness. I’ve got to get out of here.
