Nick burst into the room just as the sound of voices had faded. He came to a standstill once his eyes were met with someone he hadn't expected to find. "Wanda?" His head was tilted, confused at the lack of people in the room, at least compared to what he had heard. "Have you seen-"
"She's gone." Wanda bit her lip. She'd have to come clean.
"Carol?" There was no response. "Gone where?" Before Wanda had chance to reply his gaze followed hers, landing on the quantum tunnel. "But... How?"
"I'm sorry, Sir." Nick knew what this meant, simply .by the lack of stability her voice held.
"Forget it. The how's and why's are not what's important." He added, "Right now..." Before continuing. "How many vial's does she have?"
"Just one, Sir." Her face was still burning.
Nick sighed, "And the plan?"
"I'm- I didn't have much time to talk her down. She just wants to be with Natasha, I suppose there isn't one."
Nick didn't respond.
"What are we going to do?" She was timid as she dared to asked.
"For now, we wait. In the meantime, we hope that this little trip doesn't alter anything on our end. For everyone's sake." Nick hadn't intended for it to come out quite as harsh or stern as it did, but Wanda felt it nonetheless.
...
In a room almost exactly, 2 months earlier pre-time heist, Carol peered around the corner in the original Avengers Facility. She watched as Natasha tucked a strand of ruby hair behind her ear before adjusting the tight grey suit that they were all wearing - it looked especially flattering on her.
"Don't go." Carol whispered, just loud enough to make Natasha jump.
"Danvers!" The oblivious red-head cupped her cheek, before planting a peck on the other. "What are you doing here."
"You can't go to Vormir, Nat." She felt Natasha's eyes searching her face. "The red stone, there has to be a sacrifice. I know what happens, I've been in December. You did it for them, but I lost you."
Natasha looked around for the others, they'd be here any minute. "What are you talking about? You mean... You've travelled through the realm? Here?" Carol nodded hastily. "Did it work? Did we stop him?"
"Yes. It worked." She sighed. "You're not hearing me, Nat. You're not there to see it. You were the sacrifice."
Natasha had understood that perfectly.
She looked over at the vials of Pym Particles and Carol caught her stare.
"Use them to come back with me." She pleaded. "I'm not leaving without you. I won't do it Nat."
