Hey guys! This is my first book published Wattpad, but before you run back to the search page, don't worry! I have written short stories before and I've written on other websites - I'm not a complete newbie ;) I don't plan on this becoming a series, just a short novella to get me into the groove of Wattpad. Fan art is very welcome, and anyone who is willing to put in effort to create a cover/banner would be greatly appreciated! Before I delve into the story, just note a few personal ideas differentiating my werewolf story from others:

* I strongly believe that the responsibilities of an Alpha are too mature and overwhelming to be in high school, so all of my main characters are post-college. (No hate, just my opinion!)

* Mates exist, but they have to physically touch for the connection to be triggered. Mating happens to about 1 out of 3 wolves.

* It's impossible to mate to a human, unless they have were blood in them - which in that case would make them a wolf. Werewolf is the dominant gene.

* The Central Government of werewolves resides in Southern Ireland - the government's hierarchy is a 3-tiered pyramid. This will be explained further in the story.

*Werewolves are hidden from human society, and exposing yourself to one results in execution.

Thank you for taking the time to read all that! Let's get to the story - make sure you vote and like so I can upload the next chapter J Jouir (enjoy)!

Chapter 1: Cartref Newydd, Dechrau Newydd (New Home, New Beginning)

The throbbing bruises covering my shoulders, thighs and stomach were a painful reminder that what I was doing was the right action to take. Tormenting flashes of him snapped through my head, causing me to inch my shaking foot down on the pedal even more. He had finally cut the final string that tied me to that place. God damn it Theia, keep it together until we can find a place to rest, I thought to myself. I can cry myself to sleep when I actually have a bed to lay down on.

A giant billboard came into sight, which was a nice change from the constant trees that have surrounded me for the past 3 hours. 'Welcome to Oregon, The Beaver State'. A shaky sigh of relief escaped my lips, and I don't think I realized how much I needed to escape until that moment. Sure, the prospect of being classified as a rogue make me want to hide under the nearest rock, but it was better than that hellhole I had just come from. A streak of blue flared through my peripheral vision and I mentally groaned.

F*ck! My straying thoughts had caused me to speed, or maybe they knew that the car was stolen... either way, I could not let them get me. Not after I had just escaped. Seeing a driveway ahead on my left, I slowed down just enough to squeeze in. I could hear the sirens blaring behind me, and I jolted the truck to a stop. "Thanks bud," I whispered to the old pickup. It had taken me a long way.

Sprinting into the dense forest, I began stripping my body of clothes. Voices shouted from behind me and my heart skipped a few beats. Ouch! I stubbed my toe on a fallen branch as I tugged my jeans from my feet, and my eyebrows knit together as the change started. Morphing, our kind called it. I am a werewolf, born and raised. On the contrary to popular belief, you can't be turned into a wolf - only the gene pool can do that to you. All I can say is if you get bitten by a werewolf, don't prepare yourself for anything other than death.

A few stray rays of light shone down on my naked body, only making me feel slightly more self-conscious than I was before. Pins and needles echoed down through my bones, intensifying to the point where it almost hurt. Since I had been doing this for most of my life, morphing hurt way less than it did for others. I closed my eyes, and as I opened them, a whole new world filled my senses. The world I loved and cherished most.
