The bus pulls up in front of the school and the kids start pouring out and running into the school yard to meet up with their friends. Not Lexi though. Even though she sits near the front and should be one of the first out, she waits. She waits until everyone is done shoving and pushing each other out. She waits until she is the only one left in the big yellow bus and the alley is clear. Then, and only then, dose she get up and slowly walk out. She doesn't run into the school yard like the others either, then too she walks. Once behind the fence, she finds her favorite corner and sits down to wait for the bell. That would have been that however, Melanie sees her and runs over to beg her to join their game of sand-man. " Please? It will be fun! C'mon, come play with us." Lexi knows she shouldn't, she knows its a bad idea and that if her mommy found out... ohhh but she really wants to play... Ok one game, one gamecan't hurt right? And mommy wont have to find out... " OK! I'll play! But only one game ok?" " YAY! I knew I could get you to play! C'mon the others are waiting!" Melanie cries out with joy.
DRINNG
The ringing of bell marks the beginning of the day. The students line up, waiting to be collected by their teachers. The crisp spring air had them wearing light jackets and small gloves, some parents even had their children wearing hats or scarves. The arrival of an unknown young man in the place of their beloved 2nd grade teacher Miss. Willey had the hole class asking questions. Questions like "Who is he?" "Were is Miss. Willey?" "Is she hurt?" "Did something happen?" "Is she ok? " and so on. The man shushes them and leads them inside to their classroom.
Once the class is settled and seated at their places he starts. "Ok! First off, I'm Mark. No mister and sir. stuff please I'm not old enough for that yet. Next, you are probably all wondering were your teacher is. Let me assure you, she's all right. A family emergency came up and she had to leave immediately. Don't worry thought she will be back soon, I promise. Now the good thing about her leaving on such short notice is that she didn't have time to talk to me or plan any work for me to give you." This last part is met with cheers. Once he gets the class quiet again, Mark continues. "So the day is mine to use as I, and you, please.Lets start by getting to know each other. I'll go first. I'm 22, I just finished university. I like dogs and obviously I want to become a teacher. Now it's your turn, I want each of you to stand up and say your name, your age, your favorite animal and what you want to be when you're older. Lets start with you." He finishes by pointing to the boy in the first row on the left.
The boy stands up and says "I'm Mathew and I'm 7 and I like dinosaurs and I want to be an astronaut! " "Good, Mark says, now you." The girl behind Mathew gets up. "I'm Elizabeth, I just turned 8, I like cats and I want to be a signer." "I'm Jake, I'm 8, I like snakes and I want to be a star soccer player." There were doctors, police, firemen, race car drivers, all the things young minds dream of. Then it's Lexi's turn. She stands up. "My name is Alexia, I'm 7 years old, I love horses and I want to still be alive when I'm older."
