Author's Note: Hello all. I hope you all enjoy this first chapter of my story. If you like it, please don't forget to give it a comment, maybe a vote, and please feel free to share it with fans of Criminal Minds! This first chapter will not be picturing them as adults, but more their origin story together. I don't want to say too much other than that because it may spoil the chapter. Hope you all have a wonderful day. Sending you my love and positive vibes.

Fifteen Years Prior

Reserved. Awkward. Shy. Those were words that could  easily be used to ironically describe the cherub-like girl walking through the halls of Las Vegas High School. Her raven black hair was loosely tied into a braid going off to one side, she wore a white sleeveless dress with a brown cardigan, her favorite pair of Albert Einstein knee socks, and purple converse. Standing a few inches shy of five feet tall, she held her books close to her chest, careful not to make eye contact with any of the other students. Although she was a sophomore, Estrella Martinez stuck out like a sore thumb, and not just due to her petite demeanor. She swerved her way into the library as quickly as possible and into a far back corner where she could easily go unnoticed by the other students. It was lunchtime, which for her meant that she could enjoy some peace and quiet.

Estrella reached into her backpack and pulled out a tiny brown paper bag which held a peanut butter & jelly sandwich, as well as a granny smith apple. She picked out the apple and sunk her teeth into the crunchy, green fruit. The tart juice filled her mouth, allowing a sigh to escape from her and a smile to spread from one ear to the next. Her favorite part of the day were these short moments. She was far away from her constantly arguing foster parents (whom she was pretty sure only had her around for the tax write off) and far away from the overly hormonal teenagers she found much too immature and obnoxious.

As she went to pick up her book, The Complete Tales & Poems of Edgar Allen Poe, she noticed a table of eyes from across the room snickering as they looked upon her. She rolled her eyes and shifted herself away from the giggling group of girls. She truly did not understand what seemed to make her so humorous to the other students. Surely, she understood that she was an anomaly.  You see, this little cherub was merely nine years old (turning ten in the summer), and almost halfway through high school. From the time Estrella could remember anything at all, she had her head in a book. She filled her brain with as much knowledge as possible, simply for the fun of it. Before she knew it her foster parents were getting calls from her grade-school teachers explaining how she was excelling far beyond any student they had taught before. Soon she had aced exams qualifying her to skip not only grade school, but junior high as well.  Although this certainly made her feel some sort of an ego boost, it left her with very little time to make friends. Therefore she had no one standing up for her when her superiors came taunting her.

Quite quickly, the snickering girls faded into background noise. Though Estrella could still feel a pair of eyes peering at her, fixed towards her book. She lifted her nose from her book quickly to see a young boy, about twelve, sitting in front of her with a book. He had shoulder length brown hair, he wore circular glasses over his hazel eyes, and was dressed well enough he could have been going to church. The boy jumped, slightly startled. His cheeks flushed pink as he quickly stuck his nose back into his book, hoping the girl hadn't caught his gaze. Of course, she already had.

"Hello," she said, gently moving the book away from the young boy's face with her index finger.

"H-Hello," the boy nervously stuttered.

"You look a little young to be in high school. Your older siblings go here or something?" She asked.

"Well, you look younger than me," the boy said with a slight defensive tone. Realizing that he had caught her off guard the boy quietly stated a short apology, "Sorry... I'm a senior."
