Let's talk about birthdays.

I've never liked them.

That is... I've never liked my own.

I know what you think. Whaaat? Birthdays are the best thing in the year, it's a day only about you, where you get presents and celebrate!

M-hm, yeah. Just that I haven't celebrated with friends since my seventh birthday (and I really don't need this again, I still haven't forgiven Kim Eunsoo for throwing that muffin at me, this little bitch).

It's not like I don't celebrate my birthday at all. Dad and I would always go out to eat and make ourselves comfortable at home afterwards but that's it. No presents, no big thing.

And, really, I wanted to keep my seventeenth birthday like that as well. Maybe it was a habitual thing.

But that was basically the reason why I didn't tell Tae about my birthday. I just didn't want him to make a fuss about it, what would exactly be what he'd do considering his personality.

Whatsoever, I didn't really think of it when my dad greeted me with a cupcake he bought in the grocery shop around the corner, adorned with a single candle, a bright smile plastered over his face as he said, "Happy birthday daughter!"

I smiled sweetly, "Thank you father."

And that was my birthday's morning, just like eyery other one.

It became more interesting when I entered the school building.

I was early as always, hurrying through the school corridors with my head down to avoid talking with my teachers, who so far were the only ones already present.

I just had opened the door to my classroom and was instantly suffocated by a bone-crushing hug from my overly enthusiastic friend.

"Happy birthday Y/N!"

"Ugh- Hi Tae." I huffed out, trying my best to breath air while I asked myself how the hell he knew that today was my birthday.

I took a step back and faced a brightly smiling Taehyung. I needed a moment to realize what was differnet.

He wore a pastel pink pullover with little ice cream prints over a white shirt, a pair of washed out short shorts and his beloved pink Converse. His hair was freshly dyed in a bright pink and - oh wow - he had his nails painted in various pastel tones (in perfect contrast to my faded black nail polish, just saying) and I needed a moment to comprehend that he had dressed up for my birthday. Cute.

He scratched on his newly painted nails as I examined him, before asking:"How did you know today was my birthday?"

A sheepish smile appeared on his face as he answered, "Your dad told me. He also told me that I shouldn't be mad at you for not telling me because you usually don't like celebrating your birthday for some reason. He also invited me for dinner to night."

I put beside the fact that dad and Tae seemed to be best buddies and tried to imagine my birthday evening together with the pink head in front of me who looked as if he wanted to say something else but couldn't find the right words.
