Chapter Twenty

In and out of consciousness I went. At one time, I contacted Crystal through the walkie talkie. If I couldn't be the hero, maybe she could. We, Nate and myself, were coming up to one of the many exits.

He tried to push the door open, then pull it. It wouldn't budge. I could tell that he was going to try and kick it down, but I warned, "You'll attract too much attention."

"You're bleeding out. I need to get you to a paramedic."

"Take me to the nurse's office."

"Kid--"

"Either we die because you attract The League, or we live. Maybe it's just me, but I prefer the latter."

Nate sighed.

"Where is it?"

"Go back down this hall and take an immediate right."

The nurse's office was found with little hassle, thank god.

"You're going to patched up. Just do as I say."

"I think I know--"

"Set me on that cot and then roll me over. You need to apply pressure to the wound. Everything you need should be in that cabinet."

He did as instructed, doing his best not to cause me more pain than need be.

"Do you want painkillers?"

"Not yet." He applied the pressure and I tried not to cry out. I clenched my teeth and dug my fingernails into my palm. A few whimpers escaped nonetheless.

"Do I bandage you yet?"

"Am I still bleeding a lot?"

"No."

"Go for it."

Never before had I felt this much pain. There really is a first for everything, I guess.

For my situation, I felt like I was being quite calm. Nate was trained to be calm in these kinds of situations. Me? I should be having a panic attack right about now.

"We need to find them," I groaned, sitting up somehow.

"You should stay here."

"No. This is my fault. I'm not going to sit back and just let it all happen. Grab me the crutches." I pointed at the cabinet. There were bound to be some in there.

Nate close by, I hobbled down the halls. I wondered if Crystal had found them yet. Even if she did, she wouldn't have been able to get them out. Not by herself.

"Where was the last place you saw Felicia?"

"In the cafeteria."

"Might as well check there first."

---

Casey hated Felicia, almost as much as her "boss" did. Jenny wasn't all that fond of Richard's first born either.

Today that would all change.

After Richard and Cortez left the trio in the cafeteria, Jenny and Casey watched from afar. They would have swooped in then, but an officer and that Vanessa girl could be seen. They, Casey and Jenny, would have to find a more appropriate time to do what needed to be done.

The officer hugged Felicia, while Vanessa stood a few steps away. Words were exchanged. None of that mattered to Casey and Jenny.

"What do we do?" the younger of the two questioned.

"We wait."

"We always wait!" Casey whispered harshly.

"Hush! Patience is a virtue, my dear."

Casey rolled her eyes and followed her mother down a hallway. The sign above the archway said, "Science Hall". Jenny smiled to herself, knowing that if she found a biology room that she would have better luck taking out Felicia.

The two separated, looking for a bio room that would have supplies in it.

---

"We need to get out of here," I said. Nate was still hugging his family. It felt like fifteen minutes had passed. Rather suspicious that no one lept from the shadows and tried to kill us all, I thought.

Nate helped his wife stand, Tina taking to her other side to help. Reyna and I trailed behind them.

"Nina is dead," I told her quietly. All she did was sigh, shaking her head. "Chauncey. . .he. . .shot her because she disobeyed orders."

"I always knew he was a nutter," she mumbled.

We were walking through the science hall when I heard a door slam open. My heart sank and watched helplessly as Mrs. Noble was snatched right into the room. Nate, Tina, and Reyna tried to get the door open but it would only open a smidge.

That's when I heard them; Boss' heavy combat boots.

"We need to go, now," I growled, hobbling away from the sound of the boots.

"But--" Nate tried to argue.

"She's right," Tina said solemnly.

Nate just gaped at her, Reyna nodding slowly. Tina and Reyna knew Boss' fury, I could tell.

---

Jenny threw Felicia against one of the lab benches.

"This is all your fault!" Jenny shouted.

"I know," Felicia replied with a whimper. Her whole body was aching.

"You deserve to die."

"I know," Felicia responded once again.

"He's always obsessed over you. It was always, 'Felicia' this and 'Felicia' that. I'm sick of it!"

Felicia's head snapped up and she sneered, "Do you really think I wanted him to do that?" She took a step closer to Jenny, "You really think I like his attention?"

"At least I didn't kill his happiness," Jenny said, completely ignoring everything Felicia had said.

"Looks like you couldn't give it to him, though."

Her comment made Jenny slap Felicia hard on the face. When Felicia's head turned back to Jenny, she was smiling. A smile that Jenny had only ever seen on her husband's face.

"Listen lady," Felicia grabbed Jenny's collar, "I don't even know who you are. But let me guess, you want me dead." She pushed Jenny away roughly. "Join the club."

Out of frustration, Jenny screamed loudly. While screaming, she charged at Felicia, swinging her arms wildly. She managed to get Felicia on the floor, pounding her fists into Felicia's head.

"Die you stupid bitch!" Jenny screamed repeatedly.

Felicia grabbed one of Jenny's fists and twisted as hard as she could. The older woman, with her brittle bones, shrieked and clenched her arm close to her bosom. The younger woman took this opportunity to push Jenny on the floor and straddle her. Now that Felicia was on top, she started to choke the life out of Jenny.

"You're just like him," she managed to get out.

Felicia's eyes widened. Jenny was right.

But Jenny also knew that her comment would throw Felicia off guard. Jenny took advantage of the moment, shoving Richard's daughter off of her. Both stood quickly, but Jenny was closer to the supply closet. She was able to grab a microscope and was ready to bash Felicia's head in with it.

There was something that stopped her though. A gunshot to the head. Felicia watched the woman go down, then checked herself for bullet wounds. None.

"Mom!" Casey screamed, pushing past her father to aid Jenny.

Another shot rang out.

Casey joined her mother on the floor, bleeding profusely.

"You're all mine," Richard snarled.
