Obadiah

The sudden awakening of the giant porg shook Jenny to her core. An instant rush of conflicting emotions entered her consciousness.

"What's happened to him? What's happened to my giant porg!", Jenny thought to herself as her reflexes guided her to the closest thing to a weapon that she had in her room, a long toy snake that she had bought as a joke from Target.

While it wasn't a weapon of war to many, Jenny was not a typical girl. After her 14 hour reading of Trigger Warning, Jenny learned from the best, Jenny learned from Jake Rivers. She grabbed the head of the snake and threw the rest of its body behind her back, then bent her knees at an angle, as if she was ready to strike.

"What do you want from me Obadiah?!", Jenny screamed ferociously at the porg, her eyebrows expressing her readiness to defend herself.

"I mean you no harm, Jenny. I am just tired. Please.", Obadiah said, getting more exasperated and short of breath as he spoke.

Obadiah's blue aura faded in color and intensity. His body levitated gently down towards the bed, as if he needed to rest. Jenny's survivalist instincts waned. The sight of her beloved friend, her trusted confidant, and her gentle companion falling to her bed moved her in ways she hasn't known ever since her annual pass at Disneyland expired.

Jenny uncoiled her makeshift weapon and approached Obadiah cautiously, one foot at a time. As she drew nearer, she could hear and see the toll that speaking and levitating had on Obadiah. His big, fluffy chest slowly expanded and contracted as he searched for air.

Jenny looked down for a moment to think to herself. She didn't understand anything that was happening around her in this strange world, but she understood that Obadiah was in pain. Jenny took a nearby half-finished bottle of Mountain Dew, the gamer's drink, and gently poured it onto Obadiah's lips.

Obadiah's normally agape mouth closed for a short moment, as if he was enjoying the sweet nutrients that he just received.

"Thank you, Jenny.", Obadiah said, with a smile that only a porg could make.

"Well?", Jenny said, her head looking to and fro, her arms gesturing here and there, suggesting to Obadiah that she wants an explanation for everything that's happening.

Obadiah's eyes closed briefly and he mustered his remaining strength to sit up straight on the crowded bed.

"Long ago, a young girl named Cassie watched one of your videos. She was a fan of yours see, and if she had a credit card, she would've been one of your patrons on Patreon. She idolized you, and she even had a giant $400 porg, much like you did.", Obadiah said, before Jenny interrupted him.

Jenny had noticed his choice of words.

"Did? Why did you say that in the past tense?", Jenny said inquisitively.

"No, forgive me. English isn't my first language. Your giant porg is safely under your bed.", Obadiah replied.

Jenny dropped to her knees and checked under her bed. Surely enough, the permanently shocked face of her giant porg greeted her. She doesn't remember leaving it there, but there it is, unharmed.

"Cassie saw your video about dark internet rituals. She saw you explain them in depth and give them scathing critiques. She enjoyed it very much, and she even left you a Like. But she...", Obadiah coughed, clearly straining himself to tell his life story.

Jenny responded by carefully giving Obadiah more gamer fuel. Obadiah was pleased, he hasn't had something so refreshing in such a long time.

"She was bored one night, because you weren't a full time streamer back then. And so she thought that it would be a good idea to try one of those dark rituals out. With a knife she took from the kitchen, she cut me apart and filled me with rice. After saying those unholy incantations, I came to life. But she was good, and she was smart. I couldn't find her in our wretched game of hide n' seek.  When she was more bored, she dispelled me appropriately. But...there was a problem.", Obadiah continued, his eyes looking away as if he had remembered a pain that he hadn't confided to anyone else about.

Jenny didn't say anything. She knew that he needed to take a moment to rest and to reflect, and she gave him that time.

"She couldn't bury me. I was too big.", Obadiah finally said, his voice breaking as he uttered those words.

A sadness washed over Jenny's face. She knew what this meant. She's studied the occult for ages, watched every episode of Sabrina, the Teenage Witch as well as enduring My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Cassie had made a huge mistake. By dispelling Obadiah but not finishing the ritual properly, Obadiah was stuck in limbo, the place between reality and magic.

Jenny put her hand on Obadiah's giant flipper and nodded in silence. She understood his pain, and he understood her empathy.

"How'd you contact me? How'd you make an account on Twitch?", Jenny asked softly and sincerely.

"It took me years to gathering the strength to do those things. But Twitch is a portal between realities. When you stream, you open yourself to other people as well as to other realms. I was fortuitous that by the time I gathered the strength to do it, you were well on your way to becoming a pro streamer.", Obadiah explained, gesturing towards her gaming computer with his sizable flipper.

"So what's happening in the real world, my world?", Jenny asked. She had just started her journey as a streamer and she didn't want to let her fans down. She worried that they may worry about her, when in truth, she felt safe and at home with Obadiah.

"Blackness, nothingness. Your stream is offline right now, due to some technical difficulties. If you choose to return to your reality, you can. Just turn on your gaming computer and log into your Twitch account and start streaming again. Everything will return to normal. But if you stay here in the magic realm and help me, then I will be forever grateful and indebted to you, Jenny Nicholson.", Obadiah said with a sadness in his voice.

He knew that there was nothing that he could do to stop Jenny from abandoning him and returning to her life as a full time streamer. But he also knew that there was a chance that her compassionate soul would compel her to help a giant porg that was in need, even if that giant porg was possessed by a Japanese demon.

Jenny looked at Obadiah, slouched against her bed, his eyes wide with the pain of existence. She didn't hesitate, she had already made up her mind 5 minutes ago.

"Obadiah, I'll help you.", Jenny said with a powerful focus in her voice.
