ashes.

ashes in water
are like the winter skies
billowing, dissipating,
falling ever so slowly

i will hang an urn upon my neck
listen for her in the breeze
see her standing before me as i am at the water's edge
and i will make myself smile
because she truly was too good for this world

the world was jealous
and it beat her down and beat her down
until there was no other choice
but to put her under the needle;
send her to sleep
and up to the skies

i hope she's running free
in the winter winds and summer breezes
i'll never stop listening for her bark
