A Christmas Letter

For all of Christmas day, Tom sat by the rosebush, saying all the things he wish he could've said to his Starboy.
"So. It's been a year, one lousy year. One painful year. One quiet year. ONE-"
Tom began on a cussing spree, his sadness and self pity turning to self hate and rage.

Then he heard voices in the distance. Tord's family was coming, saying hello to their late son. They still seemed pretty far off. Maybe he had time to leave something. He dug around in his pocket and found a piece of paper and a pen.

Dear Starboy,
You never knew the whole story, and for that, I'm sorry. I never had the guts to tell you, and now I guess it was for the worst. I really miss you, but I don't have the courage to come visit you, at least not yet. So, I've decided to write this note.

Reasons I miss you

1. Your smile would light up my entire life, but now all I see is dark

2. You were always there to catch me, but now I've been falling for eternity.

3. The imagination that you had, oh boy, I could see. Now that colour's faded, and it's back to black and white.

I could name 1000 reasons, but I'll save them for my next visits.

Not a day passes where I forget to long for you.

He sealed the letter in one of Tord's old envelopes, the one with the stars. Tom placed it on top of the new flower crown, then snuck out of the woods, following the stream.

Out of love for both their late and mourning friends, Matt and Edd decided to join Tord's family in the expedition down to the falls.

They gathered around the grave, both a look of confusion and surprise flashed among the small crowd as they saw what was left behind on his grave. Tord's mother read the letter out loud, and everyone's eyes became filled with tears.

As she neared the end of the letter, she dropped the stary envelope into the paper white snow. Mrs. Larson cried, a soft, low sob. It was painful for everyone to listen to, especially for Tom, who was hiding under the cliff.

Soon enough, the Larson family left with Matt and Edd trailing behind. Tom had suck away to retrieve Susan from his car.

The blue hoodied man soon returned, carrying a black guitar. He mindlessly began to pluck some strings, then a tune began to come together, one that he couldn't quite place. Tom could only imagine Tord humming along or making up some lyrics...
