Chapter 1: The missing hunter

Naruto Uzumaki layed down in the snow after a long training session, which consisted mostly of fighting an army of shadow clones to get better at fighting multiple opponents. Naruto wasn't super tired, he had an insane amount of stamina, but he was bored. Bored and cold. Naruto sighed.

'I wonder what Sakura and the others are doing back home.' Naruto thought before he heard footsteps, crushing the snow.

"If you wanted to rest, you could have went back to the inn... it would be warmer than being out here." said the voice of Katara. Naruto smiled when he heard her voice and sat up to see her.

"Hey, Katara. What's up?" Naruto asked.

"Nothing much. Master Pakku asked me to come get you. He says he has a mission for you." Katara replied. Naruto jumped into the air, fighting the urge to cheer. He had missed going on missions with Sakura, Sasuke, and Kakashi.... and now someone had a mission for him.

"See you later then, Katara." Naruto said before he started on his way to Pakku's waterbending school. Katara sighed and laughed a bit.

"He always needs to have something to do." Katara thought outloud in amusement.

Naruto arrived at Pakku's waterbending school.

"You needed something, Gramps Pakku?" Naruto asked. Pakku sighed at the nickname but smiled. Pakku had come to like Naruto, he was a good kid, one that was unafraid to stand up to anyone... including him at one time.

"Yes. I have a mission for you, Naruto. Here, in the Northern Water Tribe, the Water Tribe's most famous hunter and fisherman, Hiryu lives. Hiryu went out of the city to hunt today, but he hasn't come back, and it's been many hours. He probably lost track of time, but you can never be too careful, we are still trying to recover from Admiral Zhao's invasion, so I'd be more comfortable if I knew he was ok." Pakku explained. Naruto nodded in understanding.

"You can leave it to me! Naruto Uzumaki is on the case!" Naruto said before starting to take off.

"Wait, there's more! He was hunting to the west of the village." Pakku revealed. Naruto nodded.

"West, got it." Naruto replied as he started to head to the west hunting grounds.

As Naruto wondered away from the village, flashbacks of fhe Siege of the North flashed in his head. The way Yue died... to become the moon spirit after Zhao killed the previous one. He didn't know what the spirit of the Ocean did to the almost dead Zhao... but he hoped it was something that returned the pain Zhao caused back to him a thousand fold. Naruto didn't have much time to think on it anymore when a wolf creature lunged at him. Naruto ducked and threw shuriken at it.

"Get outta here. I'm not the hunter guy!" Naruto said as the shuriken made a few minor cuts on the wolf, as Naruto was not trying to kill the creature. The wolf creature ran away and Naruto continued on his way before he saw soot in the snow.

"It's that black soot stuff again. This doesn't look good, y'know." Naruto said to himself as he found a waterbender pouch on the snow. It had Hiryu's name on it, but there was no sign of Hiryu, himself any where.
"I have a bad feeling about this. I gotta go and show this to Gramps Pakku." Naruto told himself as he begun to head back.

When Naruto showed Pakku the water pouch that belonged to Hiryu and mentioned the soot he found in the ground, Pakku looked disturbed.

"Waterbenders don't just leave their pouches. And if there was soot on the ground.... there may have been a battle there. This is disturbing." Pakku said. Suddenly a loud clang was heard and Fire Nation soldiers got into the village.
