Some People Just Don't Learn

The meeting was all about what happened, how security would be stepped up and, how grievance counselors would be available all week.

Before the students were dismissed, Dr. Bliss stepped on stage and took the mic.

"I would like to point out that, the gunmen who attacked our school, used to be your fellow classmates. They took this course of action because, they were bullied, shamed and, beat up. Those students were pushed to this by bullies. Now, those students must suffer the consequences of their actions but, this goes to show that bullying is.not funny. The school year has barely started and already I've had many reports of bullying going on. Words hurt. Remember that. You may all proceed on to lunch. Thank you."

The auditorium seemed to be silent as her words sunk in.

Students whispered among themseleves, some even crying.

The cafeteria wasn't it's usual rowdy, loud mess. Instead, students sat around picking at food, talking softly or, crying over recently lost friends.

"Excuse me!" Rhonda stood on top of a table calling for everyones attention.

Helga covered her face, she was sitting with her friends like always, with Sasha with her this time.

"Sit down freshman!"a senior yelled from the other side of the room.

"Yeah, didn't you hear Dr. Bliss, stop bullying people." a random girl called out.

Soon, more people joined in, yelling and screaming for Rhonda to sit down.

Stubbornness and the chance to spread gossip, wouldn't let Rhonda sit down.

Helga got up and went to dump her tray.

"So when were you going to tell Brainy that you can't be his date to the dance, since your official with Arnold now?! " Rhonda screamed over everyone else.

Helga froze , with everything going on, she had forgotten all about the dance.

The cafeteria was silent now, all eyes on her.

"Official?" Lila asked, standing next to the table Rhonda was on.

"Yes, official." Arnold said coming to stand next to Helga and taking her hand.

"Aw, poor Brainy. Guess you'll be all alone, like always." Rhonda sneered.

Brainy's face was bright red and he quickly put on his hoodie and made a run for the doors.

Helga grabbed his arm before he could make his way out.

"Brainy, nothings changed. I'll still be your date to the dance. With everything that...happened. It slipped my mind." Helga smiled at him.

"Arnold." he said softly looking down at his shoes.

"It's fine with me Brainy. She made a promise to you. I would expect her to keep it." Arnold smiled at him too.

"So, I guess that means you can be my date. Right, Arnold?" Lila asked with a smirk on her face.
