Lauren's POV
There were only two things I could remember after waking up in the middle of nowhere.
One: I was running away from something. Or someone. From what? Don't ask, I can't even figure it out myself. My mind holds a blurry image of the dark night sky and a muddy forest with rough looking trees and a strong flood pouring down on me. Somehow I managed to caught a glimpse of my petit wolf form desperately trying to get away from those chasing her, tears stained her eyes as her paws pounded the ground gaining speed from those behind her.
And two: I remembered someone yelling for me. I have fuzzy picture of him in my head, but as much as I tried to clear up his face, my mind wouldn't do so, I could only tell out his outline. Still, his voice sounded so loud and alarming, it was scary."Run Lauren!"
Lauren.
That's my name...I think.
When I opened my eyes , I noticed I was lying down besides a rapid stream with half my lower body still in the water and the rest of it laying over very uncomfortable rocks. I was in a meadow, and at close distance I found myself staring at what could have been hundreds of acres of woods. My clothes were nowhere to be seen and so my most accurate guess was that I ended up here in my wolf form and eventually shifted back when my wolf felt my surroundings safe enough for my human form. The bright sun from above and the sound of water passing by helped me realized I was alive.
I also noticed my body covered in dirt and blood. Scratches and bruises. How everything slowly started to hurt, and the most minimum movement made my body ache and tears to build up in my eyes.
Some of those scratches looked fine to me, tiny looking paper cuts that stung but weren't so bad. The rest of them were the main reason why I shifted back to my wolf and stayed still, thinking everything through. She would be able to endure the most pain my human body couldn't take. Inside my head, I battled the many possibilities of what could had happen to me. I was alone, weak and badly bruised, my surroundings were completely unfamiliar, and my memories were gone.
I didn't know which land was this, nor if I had trespassed or just was in unclaimed territory.
The forest up ahead seemed endless from my perspective. My head was resting in between my paws and I was staring at the tall and strong looking trees that surrounded the meadow. After a while I shifted my gaze to the stream and viewed the fishes that swam by.
My plan was simple. Stay still until the pain is gone, or as much of it is gone, and then find somewhere safe to spend the night. Preferably somewhere with a roof. It's a shame that not much of that plan worked out.
Somewhere in between the tranquility of my resting position and my attention on the little fishes in the water, I heard a tremendous growl from behind me that made my whole body freeze and chills to travel down my spine. The true facts of my situation fell upon me. To start off, I realized that indeed I had trespassed Alpha territory, and last but not least, I was currently a ROGUE.
Rogues were pack less wolves, heartless and ruthless in their actions. Once a rogue crossed Alpha territory, there was an infinite of consequences that could happen to him or her, and among those was death. Rogues were never to be trusted and treated as trash and nuisance in all packs.
Haunted by my own thoughts, I quickly tried my best to stand up and show my submission and respect to whoever was behind me. The pain that came soon after was unbearable, but I knew that one wrong move would mean defiance, and the odds weren't to my favor.
The growls coming from behind me grew in numbers. I knew I was surrounded, and that scared me even more. The rest of the wolves sounded so angry and cruel. I was more than aware that they would rip me to pieces in a matter of seconds if I was to show disrespect. The only thing I was able to do, was to face them with my head hanging low.
