Everything started when my mom decided to marry that monster, Luke. I was only six when my father left. My mother was the one to blame. My father was a responsible man who cared for his family but all my mother wanted was money for drugs and alcohol and she got it when she got married for the second time. Of course, my father couldn't handle it. That's the reason he left.
You would think I'm lying but I'm not. My stepfather had abused me ever since my mom left me alone with him for the first time. I'd never told anyone except my best friend Elizabeth. We met in Year 10 when we sat together in Drama class. We were both loners but I guess we collided at the perfect moment.
My name is Heather, I was sixteen and I was in my school's restroom's throwing up every single content inside my stomach. I was born a brunette but I decided to dye my hair some sort of red. My eyes are brown, my nose isn't so big and it's pierced, and my lips are naturally pink. I guess you could say I was beautiful. That's at least the last words I heard my father say before he left.
"Heather, are you okay?" I heard my best friend's voice from the other side of the door. I waited for my stomach to empty itself and walked out to rinse my mouth and wash my face. "What the hell happened to you?"
"Nothing. I just threw up." I forced as smile as we walked out of the restrooms and into the hall.
"That's bullshit Heather. You have to tell the police about this. He can't keep doing this to you." I groaned as I heard her talk. She knew the consequences yet she insisted on telling somebody so they could get Luke in jail.
"I can't. He's going to kill me if I do." We pushed the doors open so we could head home. We walked in silence but I knew my best friend was right and I hated when she was. I had been abused and raped by that monster but my mom didn't care. She never cared for me. Unfortunately, I was only child.
Elizabeth made sure I got home safe and then headed on the other direction so she could get home. I opened the door to my house and dropped the keys on the table next to the coat closet.
"You're just like your father! Do you think you can come in and get out of this house whenever you want?" I shut my eyes as I turned around to hear my mother's words. I opened my eyes and kept my gaze locked with hers. She was drunk.
"I'm sixteen. I know what's right and wrong for me." Her eyes were filled with anger. As much as I tried to love my mom, I couldn't. She didn't have the right to be my mother.
"Go to your room and don't come out!" She pointed the stairs. I sighed without saying anything else and walked upstairs. I locked myself in my room and lied in bed. I stared at the ceiling, thinking how my life could be if my father was home or if he had taken me with him. And thankfully, the monster wasn't home tonight.
Nine months had passed since everything. The day my mother found out I was pregnant, she made me pack my bags and kicked me out of the house. I was thankful Elizabeth's mother knew and had offered me to stay with them. Elizabeth insisted on going to the doctor with me so we could know how the baby was doing but I declined her request.
I didn't want to know anything about the baby until it was born. I knew it was there because of the many kicks it made me feel. Elizabeth and I sat on her bed as she scrolled through her laptop for names. Baby names to be exact.
"Oh god! I forgot I had to go buy some milk!" She stood up and grabbed her purse after she shut her laptop. "Is it okay if you stay alone for a while?"
"Of course. Don't worry." She smiled and hugged me before heading out the door. I sat on her bed while looking at my belly. It was huge. My thoughts were interrupted by a yell. I grabbed my phone and a purse I had in case of an emergency. I slowly stood up and walked out of the room. As I rushed down the stairs, everything was silent. "Elizabeth?"
No answer.
"Elizabeth?" I stepped into the living room to be greeted by a tall figure with blonde hair.
"Hello Heather. Miss me?" I gasped as I realized who it was. He turned around letting himself look at me. Luke. I was terrified.
"What are you doing here?" He smirked.
"Let's say I wanted to see my baby." He pointed my belly and looked at it. "Did you really think about keeping it? Wow! I admire you."
"Your baby? I wouldn't call it yours because of how it was conceived and yes, I decided to keep it." He chuckled and shook his head.
"Your mother was right. Stubborn, pathetic. You're just like your father." He began to step closer and I slowly stepped back. I was scared so I decided I would try and run for it. I ran to the door and quickly got out of the house. As I ran, I felt my clothes getting wet, making me realize it was raining. I didn't care about the rain. I just wanted to save my baby.
I tried to be careful as I ran down the streets of London. The sky was dark and rain drops fell as fast as they could. I stopped at a corner and looked behind me. He wasn't following me anymore. I felt a contraction as a fluid came out of me. I groaned as I held my belly.
"Please. Not now." I whispered as I looked down. My mind was racing. What if I was going into labour now? What could happen to my baby? I was startled by hand touching my shoulder.
"Are you okay?" I nodded as I looked up. I was met by a guy. I couldn't manage to see his features clearly because of the darkness and the rain. "Are you sure?"
"I'm about to have a baby." His eyes widened and he quickly turned around. Apparently, he wasn't alone. He quickly talked to the person behind him and turned back to look at me.
"I'm taking you to the hospital." Before I could protest, he lifted me up in his arms, carrying me bride style. I took deep breaths as another contraction hit. "Keep on taking deep breaths. We're heading to the car now."
"Okay." Was all I managed to say. Everything was a blur.
"Josh, hurry. She's going to pass out in a few minutes or less." The last thing I heard was a door slam. I prayed to God, if this was a life or death matter, to take me and let my baby live as my eyes closed themselves.
