Somehow all these felt normal but it still scared the boy to his wit's end.
Mom ushered him back to his room and tucked him in. Mom, you're a priest so why can't you hear the things I can? He thought to himself quietly. It was as if his mother could feel his stare on her, but brushed it off. "Go to sleep, darling. And you had better not try to run back to that room." She lay down beside him and started to hum and pat him to sleep. The soft humming and gentle patting soothed him and as much as he didn't want to, Bobbi slowly drifted into dreamland."The leaf has fallen and now, you will come with us to the underworld, where the dead reside."
Bobbi's eyes popped wide open, his breathing started to speed up and his heart started to palpitate wildly in his chest. Hurriedly, he peeped out of his window and saw a beautiful sunrise that set over the horizon. However, his attention was drawn to the spot that the very last leaf had been.
The leaf had shrivelled up on the ground. Horrified, he realised that the sacred leaf that protected his mother and him had died. All life left was just Mom and Bobbi now, and they weren't safe no more.
"Little boy, have you come to play again?" a voice whispered sinisterly into his ear.
Bobbi felt a chill run up his spine, not daring to look behind him to meet eyes with the individual. He had always heard ghost stories from his friends and he started to believe in the supernatural, which made his predicament a whole lot worse. Taking a deep breath, he turned around, ready to face the mysterious soul.
There was nothing there.
Did Mom hear that? He thought to himself. Mom looked at him in confusion, wondering why he suddenly sat up like that.
"Are you okay? What happened?" Mom asked with a perturbed look on her face. Bobbi blinked a few times, unsure of what to say to Mom. His mouth opened and closed several times, and he finally gave up. He looked Mom in the eye.
"I need to poop." He blatantly blurted out a lie.
Mom nodded her head, and the feeling of uneasiness washed over her, but she brushed it off. Sliding off the bed, she decided to make breakfast for both of them.Bobbi got out of bed and wondered to himself, was it all a nightmare? It seemed so real though. He shook his head, trying to convince himself that everything was just his brain playing tricks on him.
He walked to the bathroom to get ready. Finished with washing his face, he looked into the mirror and saw a pair of bloodshot eyes piercing into his striking blue ones. There wasn't even a face or even the figure of a body that came along with it. Just a pair of eyes that bore into his. He let out a bloodcurdling scream at the sight of it but when Mom entered the bathroom, the pair of penetrating eyes disappeared.
"What happened, darling?" Mom questioned in alarm and looked at Bobbi's ashen white face.
Bobbi took a moment to recover and squeaked, "The- the eyes... M-mirror... R-red,"
Mom's eyes widened and knew immediately what Bobbi had just encountered. She enveloped Bobbi in a hug and comforted him, while she glared in irritation at the mirror where the striking red eyes reappeared, along with its mouth, obviously snickering and satisfied with its prank. Mom continued to embrace Bobbi, stroking the back of his head while rolling her eyes at the creature in the mirror:
The Prophet of Doom.
