"Wake up, mouse-brain." A large brown tom loomed over Gingerpaw as she opened her eyes. Who- his muscular figure and cold gaze gave her a fright. Wh- ?! She jumped up. "Finally you're awake." The tom snarled. "It's time for you to begin you're real training."
She gulped. "Okay.."
The tom turned around and flicked his tail, beckoning for Gingerpaw to follow. She reluctantly did, fur beginning to stand. What will he force me to do? Fight two badgers myself? I'm only 9 moons! She shivered.
She followed Brownpelt to unfamiliar grounds, always having trained where Redclaw had died. His death made her want to cry, but she kept it in.
By the time they reached their destination, she was panting. "Here, we'll train here. My mentor trained me here, so you'll get used to it." The tom hissed. Maybe when I'm a warrior, I will. It's so hard to get here!
"I'll teach you something you wouldn't have learned from that stupid Redclaw. We need more warriors to protect the borders and such." The tom stood confidently. "Watch me." Gingerpaw nodded. He leaped at the apprentice, growling. He landed on her back, making Gingerpaw tilt. What the- ! He unsheathed his claws, digging into her back. She held in a screech as Brownpelt pushed her down and rolled, ending up pinning Gingerpaw. "There."
She gasped. "N - nice..-" The tom backed away off of the she. "Now, do that to me."
Her eyes widened. "I can't do that! You're a warrior!"
Brownpelt s eyes narrowed. "Do it. I'll go limp so it's not as hard." His voice seemed monotone and completely calm.
she nodded. "Alright.." She backed away, crouching. She calmed herself, focusing.
"Hurry, we don't got all day." The tom snarled.
She leaped, feeling like she could bite his neck there and then and end the mocking, but she followed through. She landed on her back, trying to tilt him.
"You're stronger than that," he growled.
She felt rage build up inside her. Isn't he going to go limp? That liar.. Though it didn't seem major, she was mad. She used all her strength to push him, starting to roll. I'm doing it! She kept the roll going.
Brownpelt ended up pinning her, growling. "You're too weak. I shouldn't have thought you could pin me. It's easy.."
Her ears pinned to her head, whining. I tried..
"I shouldn't have taken you as an apprentice. Though you need proper scolding. Redclaw was too easy on you, I know it." He got off Gingerpaw. "Come on, hopefully you won't be a disgrace and unhelpful runt at camp."
She followed at his heels, frowning. I guess he's right..

As they reached camp, her head was low, trying to avoid gazes. "Go get some rest, no prey for you tonight, ungrateful rat." Brownpelt spat. She nodded and approached the apprentices den, accepting it though she didn't agree. I shouldn't be starved because I wasn't able to complete a task.. she thought. As she entered, Rainpaw was talking to Leopardpaw, in a deep conversation about, what Gingerpaw thought, were crushes and who they thought would get together. At the corner of her eye, she saw Rainpaw roll her eyes as Gingerpaw gloomily entered. "She's actually kind of bad looking, which should probably be why she's so depressed all the time. No cat would like her, even.."
Gingerpaw zoned out of the conversation, feeling even more bad about herself after her sisters bitter words. She lay, starting to silently sob. Why? Why can't I be how Brownpelt wants?..
She stopped crying, wiping her eyes.
"Oh look, what a crybaby.." Rainpaw said, quite loudly. "Can't even keep her waterfall to herself." She snickered.
Why can't you be nice, like when we were kits? She sighed.
"Oh, stopped crying?" Rainpaw and Leopardpaw had approached while she was thinking. "Great, now you can think clearly, crybaby." Leopardpaw smiled mockingly. She looked up, frowning. "Go away.."
"Are you seriously that stupid to think we're going to go away that quickly?" Leopardpaw snickered. "Ah, you don't have the mental capacity to even comprehend your indescribable idiotic self."
Gingerpaw looked down. "I'm not doing anything-"
"Keep telling yourself that, crybaby." The two padded away, laughing quietly to themselves with inaudible sentences.
Why can't I have a perfect life?
Why can't I be loved?
Why does everyone dislike me?
Why does everyone hate me?
She drifted to sleep, silently sobbing.
I can't do this..

I can't do this
