Envy pulled on his black jacket as he stuffed his earbuds in his bag. He checked his appearance once more in the mirror. Hair pulled back in a ponytail, Green Day shirt with a studded belt and ripped jeans, black converse shoes, and silver piercings in his ears. He gladly left the hell hole he called home to go to yet another hell hole known as school. On the bus ride, Envy plugged his ears by blasting Yungblud's music. All the kids sat with their friends, happily chatting away and ignoring Envy completely. He didn't mind. It was quiet time that allowed him to relax and think.
The bus arrived at the large school, his gaze lingered on the stone building that brought him endless hells of loneliness and assholes. Envy swung his bag over his shoulder and got off the bus, not wasting a moment to get to his favorite spot to sit before class started. He took out one of his favorite books, Let's Get Lost, and continued reading it for what seemed like the thousandth time as his music blasted. Many kids walked past, ignoring him as they just walked and talked about some gossip or shit going on in their lives. Must be nice, he thought as he watched all the people pass him by. Checking the time, he got up and started heading to class.
...
"Alright, everyone. Settle down, settle down."
Envy looked up to the front of the class and saw a boy he didn't recognize. His hair was pulled back in a ponytail, his eyes shut, wearing a cute yellow shirt and jeans that complemented his complexion so well. Envy watched him as the teacher attempted to acquire everyone's attention.
"This is our newest student, his name is Ling Yao and he just moved here. Everyone be nice to him. Now then," the teacher scanned the class before pointing to an open seat towards the front, "you can sit there by Winry." Winry waved at Ling as he took his seat. Envy rolled his eyes and went back to his doodles as the class started. He furiously scribbled notes as the teacher continued on and wrote upon the board.
Eventually a work sheet was passed out. Brilliant, one of these, Envy thought as he sighed. Some student asked if they could work in groups. The teacher said she'd allow it as long as they weren't too loud and as long as they were focused. They all paired up into small circles around Envy. He just ignored them and began work on the sheet.
The world became a blur. The separate groups of desks, each its own little section of friends with only one student sitting alone, that being Envy. The smallish class all divided off although a few groups would talk to each other. Envy ignored the noise as it all seemed to blur out as he worked. Once finished, he glanced up and saw Ling laughing and chatting with Winry and Lan Fan and a few of the other guys. New kids usually have no problem finding friends at least because all the social vultures automatically gravitate to them. Not to Envy. His friends all drifted apart years ago and since everyone always knew each other by the time high school started, he had 0 chance to make friends. But that didn't matter to him. Envy was completely happy on his own. Even though he could hear whispers in the hall and some of the other guys in his other classes were complete assholes to him for wearing more feminine clothes and having "palm tree hair" as they would describe it. No, it didn't matter at all.
A glance. A singular glance. Envy's eyes widened and looked away, realizing that he was staring at Ling when Ling had finally noticed him. He quickly pretended to work on his worksheet. Taking quick glances, Envy noticed that Ling had looked away from him. Now relaxing, Envy laid his pencil down and stretched as class droned on tediously, the teacher teaching nothing for the rest of class and making the worksheet homework for that night. They'd review the math sheet tomorrow.
...
Classes droned by tediously. Envy noticed he had a few other classes with that new kid, Ling Yao such as his second period chorus, his fourth period English, and his sixth period Genetics. They even had lunch together during second lunch! But it didn't really matter. Envy planned to have NO INTERACTIONS AT ALL with Ling. If he wanted to speak to him, then Ling would, but he won't because he has other students that'll be his friends gladly and Envy knows: those people want NOTHING to do with Envy. Which was fine by him.
The final class finally ended. Students rose and grabbed their bags, chatting with the friends or leaving to go meet their friends. Envy slung his bag over his shoulder and went to leave class without a thought. Sure it was lonely and some of the assholes made fun of him, but Envy still found it far better than being at home with his Father, Pride, and Wrath. All around life sucked, but at least school was a manageable hell that let him be alone in peace.
"'Hi! Nice to meet ya,' got nothin to believe in
So let me know when my breathing stops"
