Running scared

Chapter 1

DECEMBER 2015

It was about 8:30 on a Friday night. I walk to a restaurant that's a couple blocks from where I'm staying right now. While I'm there I grab a bite to eat, read some chapters of a book I'm reading, then I decide to leave. It's not safe for me to be out for long periods of time. I pay, then head for the door. As my hand touches the handle, I feel a tap on my shoulder.

"Sorry to bother you, but I have an important question to ask."

A guy's voice. I turn around to see a guy who looks about my age, 20. He's tall and kind of muscular. He's got brown hair blue eyes and an amazing smile. Despite his good looks, I don't want anything to do with him. I don't know who I can trust anymore, I have to keep my guard up.

"Sorry I have to-"

I get cut off by the attractive boy in front of me.

"Wait!" he protests.

I turn on my heel and plan to run.

"Taylor wait!" he calls out to me.

I freeze. How does he know my name? I've never seen him before in my life!

I turn around so fast I almost fall over. I was terrified but I hid it well.

"How do you know my name?" I screamed at him.

I didn't care if I was causing a scene, I was scared out of my wits.

"Relax, okay? I was just-"

His being calm annoyed the crap out of me.

"Answer my question!" I yell before he finished speaking.

"Fine. Our parents used to work together. My parents mentioned you when they talked about your parents sometimes, that's all."

There were many questions I should've asked at that moment. How did you know what I looked like and how did you know where I was, were big ones. I was just worried about going back to my apartment, where I knew I was safe.

"It was nice meeting you, but I really better head back now."

Before I can even turn around, he stops me again.

"Don't you want to know more about your parents' murder?"

I consider his question for a moment and decide it should be fine. 

"Fine. But not here"
