APRIL 2012

"Taylor honey, can you please clear the table?" My mom asks as she does every night.

"Yeah, of course."

I started clearing dishes and my parents would wash them. After we were done, my parents would watch TV and I went upstairs on my laptop. It was a typical Saturday night in the Armstrong house. I was upstairs for about 20 minutes when I heard a bang and a thud. I race down the stairs, almost missing a few as I go. I saw 2 men with guns, my mom lifeless on the living room floor, and my dad standing with his arms in surrender.  My head spun. I was in complete shock. I didn't move or speak. I just stared at my mom on the floor wondering how one minute my mom was innocently watching TV and now she's dead in the living room. The next thing I know, the men point their guns at me . My dad jumps in front of me as the men pull the trigger. My father was shot to the ground. I couldn't even process what just happened because the men ran after me. Sobbing,I ran up to my parents room, and locked the door. I quickly grabbed the money my mom had put away for me to go to college next year and climbed down the tree next to the window. I've been running ever since.
