Tatum O’Leery has had the worst year of her life. An accident on the road in winter landed her car into a frozen lake and although she miraculously survived, her husband and son did not. Bearing the guilt of their death heavily, she is taken out of her own routine when she sees a man being attacked by nightmares. Determined to at least save this life, Taite manages to chase off the nightmares and rescue the man from the river he was drowning in. As she performs CPR on the man though, something odd and rather unfortunate happens, there is a painful flash of light and Taite is thrown aside. When she crawls back to check on the semi-conscious man, she realizes that he looks different than he had earlier; he no longer looks properly human. And that’s just the beginning of her problems because whatever that light was, it called the monsters back. Following the man’s disjointed instructions, Taite pulls him into a nearby cave for protection and is literally sucked through a wall into a new world. But all is definitely not well Underground, as Taite is the first human to step foot in this place in decades and no one wants the taint of a human on their hands. Too bad it seems that in saving this strange man’s life, she may have also accidentally broken his soul, and now needs to try and find a way to fix it.
