Roman sighed, burying his head in his hands. How could a prince fall so low? After the endless hours in the 'purgatory' Deceit trapped him in he had been drained of his self feeling down and un-prince like. He hated the fact at he had become so weak to fall into a villains trap, so much so that he had began to cut everyone else off. Expect Thomas. Roman would often seek Thomas' advice and company when the others were preoccupied or sleeping. For now, Roman kept refuge in a new area of the mind space. A place he made himself to keep all the others out while he wallowed in his self misery.
"Roman?" He heard Pattons voice echo around him.
Each of the sides have come close to finding him, but they never had. Yesterday it was Virgil to attempted to speak with him, the day before was Patton. Logan had only tried once, whereas Patton had been coming close every second day.
"Roman, please kiddo, it's been six weeks. We're all worried about you," Patton continued to search the outskirts of the mind palace. His voice growing quieter.
It was seven weeks ago Roman had been sitting at the table in the aftermath of Virgil defeating Deceit. Whilst Patton explained the whole conception of Deceit not being dead, Roman couldn't help but let himself slip into his mind were he found a voice. A voice which insisted on him being disgraceful, showing his face after he let someone else defeat the villain. How he allowed himself to be so easily over powered. It was that voice that drove him to run from everyone and create this area a week after the voice talked to him.
"I'm sorry Patton," he said, his eyes growing watery.
-
"Any luck?" Virgil asked as Patton appeared in the lounge room.
He was still sitting next to Thomas who was watching TV. Patton shook his head and closed his eyes. Virgil could see the tears forming and raced to help Patton. He wrapped his arm around his friend, letting Patton cry into his shoulder.
"After everything with Deceit, you don't think-"
"Patton that's impossible, please don't go there. Besides me and Thomas saw him today," Virgil said.
"You didn't tell me that," Patton looked up at Virgil.
"I didn't want to upset you."
"What was he doing here?" Patton asked looking over at Thomas.
"He was just talking to me," Thomas replied simply.
"What about?"
"Just general chatter," he shrugged.
"That's not what it sounded like."
Virgil turned and gave Thomas the same 'I-don't-trust-you' face Patton was giving him. Thomas looked at them and held his hands up in defence. They were interrupted by Logan walking down the stairs with a book in one hand and coffee in the other.
"Morning Lo," Thomas greeted.
Logan didn't answer. Virgil turned and smiled to see Logan wearing his headphones.
"Logan!" Virgil shouted catching his attention.
"Oh, good morning everyone," Logan replied taking the headphones off.
"Afternoon, you mean," Thomas pointed out.
"Afternoon? I- I must have lost track of time."
"That's what happens when you start listening to music," Virgil smiled wider.
Recently Virgil had been introducing Logan to more leisure activities. Yesterday he ran Logan a bath with bubbles, Pattons idea, and had arranged for them to go walk around in the park. Virgil had invited Patton to multiple of their outing but he politely declined still devastated from Roman's disappearance. Logan joined Logan on the couch along with Virgil who decided to lean up against him.
"Gonna join us Pat?" Logan asked.
"No, I'm going back to look for Roman," Patton said sounding angry before sinking down.
-
"Roman!" Patton once again began shouting into the endless void.
He was closer than before which worried Roman. No way was he ready to face them yet, especially not Patton who he had let down the most.
"Please Roman, I'm sorry," Patton sounded desperate.
Roman turned his head towards the direction of Patton's voice. Sorry? For what? He wanted more than anything to rush out and hug Patton, tell him is wasn't his fault. He didn't, but soon the urge was to strong and he found himself walking towards Pattons sobs.
"It's okay Pat," Roman whispered as he appeared in front of Patton, pulling him into his arms.
Patton stopped immediately, his eyes opening wide.
"R-Roman!" Patton returned the hug instantly, "where were you? What happened? Are you okay-"
"Patton please, I'm okay. I just, needed some alone time," he pushed Patton away sightly so he could look him in the eyes, "I think I still do. I can't face them yet."
"They're all worried about you Ro, please just come say hi," Patton begged.
"I-" he was about to say no when he saw the desperation in Patton's eyes.
Roman nodded and let Patton pull him down and back into the lounge room where everyone was.
"Roman!" Virgil jumped up and walkes over to the nervous looking prince.
He raised his hand and slapped Roman earning a gasp from Patton and making Logan look up from his book and take the headphones off once again.
"Don't you ever leave Patton like that again," Virgil said sternly pointing a finger him.
Roman looked down.
"I won't."
"Feeling any better, Roman?" Thomas asked from the couch.
"A little, but I think I'll take my leave now."
"Roman! You can't go just yet!" Patton said.
"Sorry Pat, but all prince's need their beauty sleep," Roman smiled confidently before saying goodbye and sinking back down.
