We all bleed crimson red
This liquid of life is what binds us all together
But even though we are homosapiens
We are anything but homogenous
Race, religion, sex and money
Are all the invisible lines tearing us apart
And we let it
Because everything is so much simpler
When boxed into categories
All black and white
Practising the law is easier
Than listening to human emotion
We like the idea of being alone
Too much
We embrace the idea that we are lonely in the universe
And that no one else can comprehend us
When we are the same artists who drew all those lines-
For what?
If only we all gathered in the same room
You and I
Stripped our suits of flesh
And looked each other in the eye
Would we then laugh
As we come to the realization
That maybe we’re not really strangers after all?
We are all
Chasing after the brightest stars in the sky
Engulfing the obsidian of the night
As if the darkness doesn’t scare us
Some people run-
Legs aching, muscle stretching like the strings of an overused violin
Soles sore and crying out in protest from hitting the
Rocky path too many times
Some people climb leaders to the sky-
Closer to the stars than those below
The climb is an arduous one
Constant repetition of the same steps
Over and over again
But the footholds are steady
And it is safe
Lastly, there are the ones-
With maps given to them at birth
Heading towards the stars in a spacecraft
Approved by NASA themselves
No, this is not witchcraft
All they need to do is key in the correct coordinates
And press some buttons to reach a star
We all bleed red in the end
We all have skeletons in our closets
Bodies all made of hopes, desires and unfulfilled dreams
Chained to something we remain slaves to
Yet will we
ever
be equal
in the end?
