Chapter 5 Part II

Lucifer's POV
*after he was brought to the hospital*

I woke up laying on a bed in a dark room. They probably turned the light off so I could get some sleep, but that seemed impossible.

I was still feeling an immense pain, but I didn't know if the accident had caused it or if I'm simply heartbroken.

Linda told me once that a heartbreak can hurt more than actual physical pain. I mean the reason why I am in this hospital is because of the detective. The fact that she would choose somebody else over me just hurt.

I was finally considering telling her everything.

First about me being the devil and then about my love for her.

And while I was laying in this bed I rethought our history, all the cases we solved together and the few moments we shared.

Tears were filling my eyes but I didn't and I couldn't be so weak and let this take over me.
Although i tried calming down, all I did was closing my eyes and that was when the pain in my heart returned.

It almost felt like I was dying, and since I did before, when Malcolm shot me in the warehouse, I knew what dying feels like.

The pain slowly spread and finally covered my body completely.

Like earlier in the car, memories of us were rushing through my mind, but this time it didn't end with a smile but with Chloe running into my room seeing me on the bed with the monitor showing a straight line.

After that I saw lots and lots of darkness coming towards us. After a few minutes it had absorbed all of my memories connected to Chloe.

I woke up and I was breathing heavily.

The pain was gone, I felt happy again.

I saw that the nurses already brought me a few snacks, so I started eating them because I was starving.

Suddenly the door opened and Maze stormed into my room followed by the others. I couldn't believe that they were so concerned about me and showed up so soon.

After I scanned everyone because I was so happy to see them again I stopped and said "Ella! Mazikeen! Amenadiel and Linda!" But who is the woman next to Linda? I asked "and you are?"
Because she was really beautiful and I knew her, I just didn't know why and from where.

Chloe's POV
This must be one of his stupid jokes, right? So I said ironically "funny Lucifer" but he didn't smile or laugh.

He said "I'm serious, who are you?".

Ella interrupted saying "wait? What's going on why don't you recognize her?"
This can't be true.

"I'm Chloe, Lucifer. Or as you would say the detective, we work together."

Maze added "yeah, work".
The irony in her voice made pretty clear that it wasn't only work which was going on between us.

I didn't know how to behave so I asked "what's the last thing you remember?"

After he was silent for a few seconds he said "I was with Ella at the precinct, and we were talking about something and then I was leaving but that's were I black out. I mean I recognize you from somewhere but I can't tell from where or why."

Tears started filling my eyes because I was thinking about my life without him. We were at the exact same point as we have been when we first met, except that I knew what happened and he didn't.

And I guess that is what hurt the most. This stupid accident wiped all of it away. I still didn't know how to behave during this situation. I didn't want to loose him.. I couldn't loose him.

I had to at least try to help him get his memories back, but where do I start?

I decided to ask Linda for help and told her to go out with me for a moment.
"So, Linda. I really don't know what I am supposed to do..should I try talking to him, should I pretend I don't care, or-".
Linda interrupted me "Chloe, you drive yourself completely crazy. Maybe Lucifer simply needs some time to recover, maybe his memories will come back somehow. But if you really want to do something, I would try showing him the places where you made the most important memories together. And I am sure that it will take some time because you two had many".

I tried putting a smile on but I failed terribly. Tears were now running down my face again, Linda gave me a hug and whispered into my ear "The way Lucifer always looked at you, the way he behaved around you, I am sure that he hasn't forgotten that. Just walk in again and try seeing the nervousness in his eyes, it looks exactly like before. He's trying to make some jokes to distract from his behavior. The spark in his eyes that always appears when you walk in and the smile he puts on. All these little things have only been noticed by people around you but never by yourself."
This time I really had to smile and it wasn't fake.

Amenadiels POV
He doesn't remember her but all of us? This makes absolutely no sense, he is after all the devil and it shouldn't be so easy to make him forget EVERYTHING about one person.

I am really worried that this has something to do with their bond. Back to my story with this man in heaven.

He told me so much about this angelic bond but I never intended to care about it until now.

Well, he said that after the "choice" they both have to make about either staying with the other one or leaving the visions to stay.
I guess that Chloe chose to stay, most likely because of Trixie and that's when we could talk to her again in the corridor.
The man also told me that one of them could only send those kind of messages if they are in real danger. In a situation where they were facing death.

It's the only way that they can stay together. A part of Lucifer has actually died.

It was not a body part and that wasn't the pain Lucifer and Chloe were suffering but something was erased from his memory.

Because Chloe chose her life on earth unknowingly over the endless life with Lucifer.

The process was so painful because of the strong bond they both have... had.

I mean the devil had found his first true love and Chloe was the one who made him vulnerable, they shared work, their private lives and Lucifer even died for her. After he was hurt in the accident and Chloe still made him vulnerable, it was possible for him to die and he wanted to give her the opportunity to go with him if he would have.

In this case he didn't, so his memory was erased and for a unspecified amount of time she couldn't make him vulnerable anymore.

The time is unknown because such bond never existed before and it's not even certain that she would make him vulnerable again.

I wish for both of them that they kind of find their way back together because nobody has ever made Lucifer so happy like Chloe did. He never let his guard down before.

No one could ever make him fall in love before.

Except for Chloe...
