*Stiles' POV*
I wake up to the sound of loud banging, along with a high pitched ringing. What the hell is that? I groan, covering my ears and squeezing my eyes shut. My ears continue to ring even though all other sounds are blocked out.
Then there's the indistinct muffled noises that bleed through my covered hands. I pull my hands away, confused about the sound. My head aches like all hell, pounding as if my skull was getting crushed in.
The banging became louder, and so did the muffled noises. I started to panic, which coincidentally woke me up. Finally I can understand what the hell is going on.
And then my heart races again, realizing what the commotion is. It's the first day of school. The alarm clock, coupled with yelling and banging on my door had successfully scared me into consciousness.
"Your ass better be up and out of this house before the bus comes! I'm not taking you!" My dad yells, continuing the banging.
"Jeez! I'm up, I'm up! I'll be there!" I shout, clambering out of bed.
Footsteps retreat, so I take that as a success. At least he didn't pester me after I responded. That's a bit of progress, I'd say. Not much, but some.
I grab my best outfit and shuck it on: a black t-shirt, jeans, and a flannel with shoes. Finally ready, I run down the steps and grab my backpack before sprinting to the bus stop.
Damn, I wish I had a car. It'd make things so much easier. But, of course, I don't. As a result, I have to watch as the bus slows down to my stop.
Getting on, I take the seat closest to the door. I wait for everybody else to climb aboard and take their seats. When they do, the driver speeds down the road to get to the next stop. At least, I assume so. I've never rode this bus before, so I have no clue.
As it turns out, I was right. There were multiple stops before we were dropped off in front of the school.
I sigh, entering the doors of yet another school. I roam the halls for the office. This place is bigger than my other schools. Oh, god. I'm lost.
If I had my own car, I would've had more time to look around. Maybe I can see if I can sneak out later. The junkyard should have some cars, and spare parts.
If I'm to ever get my own car, I need to know how to fix it on my own.
I walk down the halls aimlessly, still searching for somewhere to go. Shouldn't they have some sort of map of this maze? I mean, like, people can get lost all the time.
Wait. They probably had people to help them. But, of course, it's not the first day of school. So: no one can help me.
"Hey," some guy says, snapping me out of my train of rambling thoughts. "Are you lost?"
I might've spoke too soon. Maybe he can help. "Is it that obvious?" I ask, smiling softly.
"Kinda," he chuckles. "Where you heading?"
"Uh... chemistry with Mr. Harris," I tell him.
"I'm heading there now," he says. I smile softly as he gestures for me to follow him. We continue talking as we walk in step with one another. "Are you new?"
"Yeah, just moved," I reply.
"Moving sucks. Maybe you could settle in easier if you had a friend to help."
"Are you offering?" I ask. "I don't even know your name. You don't know mine, either."
"Name's Jackson Whittemore, you?" He asks.
"Stiles. Stilinski," I reply. "Do you have any advice for being here?"
"Uh..." he pauses, thinking about it for a moment. "Yeah, I do. You've heard about werewolves, right? Alpha, beta, omega and whatnot? The new laws? Everything?"
I tense instantly. "Yeah, why?" I ask hesitantly.
"Scott McCall, he's close friends with Alpha Hale. Personally, I don't trust him. I mean, I know everybody has to listen to them, authority and some shit, but I'd get the hell away from him if I could. Hale probably has McCall under his thumb. If you don't want to be dead meat, stay away from them."
I stop in my tracks, fully tense. I take a shaky breath, which catches his attention. He stops a couple steps ahead of me and turns around.
He must notice my appearance, since his face contorts to worry and confusion. "Hey, you okay?" He asks.
"I... I don't have a good history with alphas," I admit vaguely.
Jackson's face softens and he walks over to me. "Hey, it's okay. I get it. I'll point out McCall when I see him, so you don't accidentally bump into him."
I nod hesitantly. "Thanks."
He nods, putting his hand on the palm of my back and leading me towards the classroom once again. I tense up a bit at the feeling, but relax as to not make him worry.
Hopefully, everything will be okay now.
