Wednesday was gloomy. It was hard not to be, raised the way she had been raised. But still, she could remember a time, long ago, that she had tried to fight the shadows and gloom. Every morning, she was reminded of that sunshiney dress that her oldest love's mother had worn when she was introduced to the family. She had had so much fun, back then, that often the gloom just made her happier not to be as unhappy as her parents. It brought tears to her eyes just to think back when there was nothing she loved more than a good torture session with her brother. It was a wonder she hadn't killed him! She stared out the window at the misty grounds. It was an old mansion, sold for practically the cost of a pound of flour. And it needed about as much tidying up as the Ohio River.
She thought back to those years, long ago, with Lucas. She had been married so young, but there was no doubt in her mind that they had been in love. He was her first love, other than torturing her brother, and the father of her children. But she had no idea how he could have been so cold. She had the opportunity of a lifetime, and he didn't understand. She thought he had been in love. People who were in love made sacrifices for each other. But he had left her, taking most of the money and none of the children. She and Lucas had four children, a cat, a dog, an iguana, and selfless love, and he abandoned her. But that was good. Because when she and her family moved, Wednesday met Sean. And now, she had a different love of her life.
