Growing Up

There sat a young girl in her teens on her bed. It was late as she read a thick book under the light of a flickering cheap flashlight. She knew she was supposed to be asleep, but she couldn't care less as she got immersed into the story. As she was reading, her mp3 play soft medleys sung by her favourite band. A song about their hardships came on, its heartfelt and depressing tune lulling her out of fantasy that was previously captivating her. As the chorus started to play softly in her ears, she started to think. She thought about the trip her and her friends had planned to take before everyone went off to college in a few years. She knew she, she knew very well that the time left for her to still be a child was limited. That she and everyone around her would be taking different paths in their lives. This concept that was all too real for her took over her mind. She gently closed her book after marking her page, and simply sat, shrouded by her stuffies and blankets, crying silently to the sad tune still playing through her earbuds and sullen truth she would have to grow up soon.

No one wants to grow up.

No one wants to face the inevitable ending to your childhood as you leave your friends, family, and home to live your own life and be apart of adulthood.

The girl laid down, tears drying on her face as the last note of the song played, and dreamt about the life she's lived so far.
