The baby possessed the deepest grey eyes. As she gazed into the infant's eyes, she saw nothing but innocence. Gareth cradled her as they both admired their little girl.

"Tiffany," he cooed, "what an adorable little girl."

He took her from Gareth, gently holding her against his chest, swathed in a blanket.

"She's so beautiful, just like her mother."

"Tiffany and I will be visiting my father next week," she blurted out.

He frowned. "Why can't he come here?"

"I haven't been out in months."

"Ask him to come here. I don't feel comfortable with you and Tiffany outside when I'm at work."

"I'm going out with Tiffany next week," she said firmly.

"Where?" he asked. "She's only a newborn; you can stay home a little longer."

"I'm not going to be a stay-at-home mom," she declared. "I need to find a job. I need my own money, and I need to get away from... whatever this is."

His eyes flickered. "You're always testing me. What's your problem?"

"We can't keep this up forever. We can't just act like this is okay."

----

When Kyle showed up with a gift, she made sure to thank him profusely and then begged him to stay for dinner. He obliged, seemingly obsessing over Tiffany.

"Tiff," he cooed, cuddling her to his chest.

"What would you like for dinner?" She asked him.

"Anything's fine, don't stress."

"Nonsense, you're our guest."

Gareth eyed her, she never asked him what he wanted to eat and rarely ever cooked for him.

"Joan will cook, Nadia you still need rest. I'll bring you your dinner in bed."

"I'll be cooking tonight. Kyle come on you have to have a craving."

"Maybe Shepard's pie?" He asks.

"Okay that sounds great."

Gareth watched as Nadia went to the kitchen for the first time in months and then started cooking. He couldn't believe it, how many times he'd requested her to cook in the past but she was begging Kyle to even request.

"I'll come help you." He says, "You should be resting."

"Relax, it's alright."

Nadia finished cooking and then served them but served Kyle first and took Tiffany from him. Gareth didn't even have a plate in front of him, she'd placed everything for him on a stack on the table for him to go plate the food himself but made sure to plate Kyle's food and pour him water.

She fawned over him. "Thanks so much for coming. "

"Thank you for having me."

----

Gareth was very frustrated.

His wife was always trying to get his best friends attention. Was it to embarrass him? Did she not like him enough? Or was he not enough?

"You're not going to go eat?" She asked.

"You never served me the way you serve Kyle."

She rolled her eyes " I don't want to argue."

"Do you really hate me that much that you'd keep embarrassing me like that? Treating this entire family like it's an inconvenience whenever he's around?"

"Well... I never liked you. I never liked you at all. I don't know why you did any of this."

"Does it make you get off?" He asks. His eyes are enraged "Does it make you so happy to act like I'm not your husband, like you never had Tiffany."

"You're over reacting."

"You acted like he was the one who took care of you all these years."

"I don't recall ever consenting to any of this."

He furrowed his brow "you're a dumb fucking cunt Nadia. He's not coming to tell you he loves you. You're here with me and Tiffany, and he will never ever want you."

"Why does it matter to you?"

"Because you're mine." He says "You are mine Nadia. You will not get your little fucking dream that you wanted with him since we were kids. You were always going to be mine. You're not going anywhere. You're never going to live out that stupid little fantasy you have in your head with him."
