(June Farewell often dreamed about what her first flight would be like. She'd imagined it would be like being a bird; free and weightlessly drifting through the clouds.
The first part of her journey had been exactly as she'd hoped it would be. Jasper agreed, signalling his enjoyment by barking enthusiastically from the co-pilot's seat.
Little did June know things were about to take a drastic turn for the worse... and eventually the better)
"Look Jasper, another Aviator!" June exclaimed, joy inherent in her voice.
"Hergh!" Jasper barked from the co-pilot's seat.
"I didn't think anyone else knew how to fly." June said incredulously before noticing the plane start to move nearer very slowly "Hey jasper why is it getting clos..." she asked before a loud CRASH and a screech of metal on metal interrupted her and jolted her back in her seat. She felt herself falling and realised the plane had been hit with a large full metal spear, a harpoon as her grandfather called it. On instinct she reached over her shoulder and triggered the ejector mechanism on Jasper's, then her seat. As the mechanism triggered she felt a head rush and heard only the wind whistling in her ears, oblivious to her screams of enjoyment despite her near miss with death.
She felt her feet touch the ground and opened her eyes to see a barren scrapheap surrounding her in all directions; moments later jasper touched down too. She ran over to unbuckle Jasper, she sensed the palpable fear radiating from him. "What's the matter boy? Where are we?" She asked worriedly.
As if on cue she heard a rustle in the bushes behind her and as she spun around a boy around her age stepped out, dressed in a dirty jacket and jeans and holding a pistol, he looked dangerous, but hardly as menacing as he'd hoped. "Mornin'." He said flippantly "Now hand over all your scrap and I just might let you live."
"And who would you be to presume you hold any sway over me?" June replied imperiously, just like her Grandfather taught her.
"I would be the guy holding a gun. But if I must have a name, call me Lewis." The boy says, unamused by June's attempted display of haughty superiority. "If you want to live either give me all your tech or come with me."
"This sure is going to be fun isn't it jasper." June sighed, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Arf!" Jasper barked.
