ØØØØTHE SUN casted a soft orange glow over the training fields as Amber Maximoff sat on the edge of the facility's rooftop with her eyes closed just absorbing the suns rays. It was peaceful up there and maybe that's why she liked it so much. It was like a haven in the chaos of reality.
The girl had awoken a mere hour ago with a head splitting headache and streaked mascara. There had been a glass of water and aspirin on her bedside table with a small note from Steve which she didn't read. Instead she crumpled it and threw it straight into the bin and crept onto the roof.
It truly was tranquil watching the sun lift itself over the horizon and let its light spread over the land. It was the euphoric feeling of complete calmness and quiet, which was something Amber had been lacking lately.
She didn't know how long she'd been up there for or if anyone else was awake all she knew was the heavy feeling that wouldn't budge. Amber looked down at her feet as they dangled over the edge, usually people would find a height like this to be dangerous, but something about it sent reassurance throughout her body.
"You shouldn't be up here" a soft voice spoke up from beside her, Amber squeezed her eyes shut trying to avoid the eye contact of the person beside her. Against the will of her mind, her body turned to face where the voice was coming from. Upon her eyes landing on the figure, her heart dropped and a twinge of pain trickled through her.
"And you, shouldn't be here at all" Amber whispered, her voice cracking as she met the familiar green, welcoming eyes of the person beside her.
"Touche Amber, touche" Natasha chuckled, flipping her hair over her shoulder. "This was always your spot. I remember sending out agents to find you, only to have them scream upon seeing you on the roof." A cold silence fell over the two while Amber digested the situation.
A singular tear fell from her eye when the girl blinked, "Why did you do it? Why did you jump?" Amber croaked, her heartbreaking at the sight of Natasha frowning. The woman looked conflicted, "It was supposed to be me. I was already over the edge. Why didn't you just let me do it?"
"You have so much to live for Amber." The red head answered, "I only had the team, you have your sister, the kids at the orphanage, the world needed you more then it needed me". Amber shook her head, more tears falling.
"But I need you." Amber whimpered, it was as if she was suddenly transported back to the days after Pietro and Sokovia. "I need a Natasha Romanoff in my life. You were the glue-you held us together these past few years. You were like a mother to me"
