Merlin x reader

I was standing up in the balcony beside my father with my brother on my other side. (Dress at top is the one you are wearing). I listened to the speech my father was giving about how magic was outlawed and that a man had been caught practicing it. The man was on the block and I looked down at him in pity and horror. I hated that someone was being executed for such a terrible thing. He didn't even hurt anyone.

Without realizing it I grabbed my brother Arthur by his hand. My father looked down to me in sympathy.

Uther pov

I looked down to my daughter as I heard her give a slight gasp. She looked pale and frightened. But also sad. I understood her feelings.

There was a time when I to got this way at executions. I didn't want her to see this. So I looked to my son who's hand she was tightly gripping

"Take your sister inside and stay with her." I told him

"Father I-I'm Fine." Y/n tried to protest "besides I can't be seen leaving it would make me look like a fool."

"No it would make you look human y/n." Arthur reassured her. With a nod of her head they went back inside the castle and the execution continued.

After it was over I announced a celebration but suddenly there was a woman. And she was seething with anger but drowning in sorrow. She looked at me "an eye for an eye. A tooth for a tooth. A child for a child" she spit venomously

"Seize her!" I yelled but before the guards could reach her she vanished.

As the people slowly dispersed I worriedly thought to myself and then an idea hit me "guards!" I called

The four guards that had been on the balcony with me approached "I want eyes on my children at all times. And extra guards by the castle. I will not let my children be harmed." I told them

They nodded and went to inform the rest. And I went inside to start preparing for the celebrations

Back to your POV the next day

I sat looking down at my brother and his men training. They had been making fun of the poor lad helping them for a few minuets and I couldn't stand it.

I stood up and went to go down to the court yard the guard following behind me. As I entered the court yard I saw them making the poor boy run while holding the target so they could get 'practice with a moving target'

"Hey!" I called "that's enough!"

The poor target boy got startled by my yelling and dropped the target. It rolled and stoped at the feet of a handsome boy.

As the target boy went to grab it the un known young man put his foot on it "she's right my friend that's enough. You've had your fun." He said to Arthur

I was shocked! Who is this man? How can he be so brave to talk to a prince such a way? Why have I never met him?

Suddenly I saw Arthur challenging the boy egging him on "stop it both of you!" I called but the boy didn't listen and swung at Arthur.

Arthur expertly grabbed his hand and pulled it behind the boy who's name I learned to be Merlins back.

"Who do you think you are? The king?" Merlin asked

Arthur looked over at me then back to Merlin with a smirk "no I'm his son" he said

"That is enough Arthur let him go!" I exclaimed as I went over to them I put my hand on my brothers chest and one on Merlin's shoulder blades pushing them apart "that wasn't right Arthur and you know it!" I told him before looking to Merlin "are you alright?" I asked him gently

"Oh come on y/n. I'm your brother you're supposed to side with me!" Arthur whined

"Hush! Now really are you alright?" I asked Merlin

"I'm fine. I shouldn't have done that. He's right. I'm fine." He assured me

Before I could say anything else he was being dragged away by two guards.

I rolled my eyes and followed after them "release him immediately!" I demanded

"Quite! He attacked the future king. He will be taken to the dungeons" the guard growled at me again

"How dare you address me in such a way!" I exclaimed he rolled his eyes and continued on as I turned around to look at my brother "Arthur!" I exclaimed

He turned to look at me looking away from his men "what is it?" He asked

"You need to help me get him out!" I said

"Why would I do that?! He attacked me!" He exclaimed

"Because you provoked him and told him to Arthur!" I told him

I rolled my eyes and walked away to talk to my father about his punishment

Time skip

I walked behind guias up to the cell door. I stood out of sight as he went inside. Not wanting ether of the men To know I was there. Once I heard guias say "I had some help and pulled a few strings to get you out early. But you will still be punished" he scolded

Then I heard Merlin "help from who?" He asked curiously

I took that as my cue to enter. As I stepped into the cell my deep red gown swirled around my feet "I did" I replied as I looked into Merlin's eyes

Both men bowed "your highness" guias said

"How many times must I tell you. It's not princess, my lady, your highness or any other formal tittle as long as it is not in front of my father you can call me y/n." I then turned to Merlin and gave a small curtsy "I'm princess y/n but you can call me y/n. I'm sorry about my brother." I told the handsome boy

"I should be the one apologizing. I shouldn't have done that. Thank you" He told me looking at the floor

"I couldn't let someone as handsome as you be stuck in a jail cell. Besides no one has ever done anything like that to my brother. It was brave. And also the right thing to do. You're a good man Merlin." I told him gently

He looked up at me. Eyes wide and a blush on his cheeks. "T-thank you y/n. But I believe out of the two of us you are the attractive one. No one else would have been willing to stick up for a nobody like me. It was kind of you to do so." He replied

I smiled and shook my head looking to the floor for a moment "I expect to be seeing a lot of you Merlin. And believe me I look forward to seeing those bright eyes of yours." I told him with a smile

"Believe me when I say I will be more excited to see that lovely smile." He complimented

I smiled at him and turned to leave the room. I have a very good feeling that this is the beginning of something beautiful.
