Oh! The Dodo is no more,
Once a majestic bird, that dominated the Indian ocean shore,
Strong beak, beautiful wings but could not soar,
Oh! The Dodo is no more!
An extinct, flightless bird of the island,
A tuft of tail feather with yellow band,
A large bird, weighing almost twenty three kilogram,
Found abundant sources of food on land,
Oh! The Dodo is no more!
Native to the island of Mauritius, east of Madagascar
Dodo bird, first sighted by Dutch sailor,
Immediately, hunted and domesticated by the sailor,
This was the begining of the birds’ failure!
Oh! The Dodo is no more!
With the few remains discovered in the region,
It was assumed, Dodo, was a ground pigeon,
It laid a single egg like the pigeon,
It was also declared as a small ostrich and a pigeon in fusion,
Oh! The Dodo is no more!
Some consider to be a mythical creature,
The Dodo achieved widespread recognition,
A bird with a distinctive feature,
A mascot on Mauritius culture,
Oh! The Dodo is no more!
