Evelyn's POV

June 19, 2019

Triggers: Blatant racism and general bigotry

Disclaimer! I probably shouldn't be writing this in Evelyn's point of view because I'm white (It sounds bad but her race matters in this chapter). If I offend anyone in this, I sincerely apologize, as that is in no way my intention. If anyone wants to help correct me to make this more accurate, I would love to hear suggestions! Thank you!

The charity live stream we had planned was finally happening. All in my basement, I'm plopped on my beanbag chair next to my boyfriend, Devon, on his. Dani and Sophie are sitting on the floor, all cuddled up together. Kaitlyn and Lissy are sharing the sofa and Gracie is on her laptop configuring the stream in a comfy red chair.

"The charity is 'Life Sucks, Man', right?" Kaitlyn asks Gracie.

She nods, eyes glued to her screen. "Yep! No idea what I'll do with the money, maybe split some with you guys."

"A-And we're playing Th-The Newlywed Game?" Sophie clarifies, getting another nod from Gracie.

I remembered that the last time we were all in my basement was the night we played Seven Minutes In Heaven, so it had only been two weeks. However, Sophie and Dani have become girlfriends since then, and Gracie and Kaitlyn were enraged that they didn't hear about it as soon as it happened, so much so that Gracie tweeted this:

Gracie Fields ✔️ (@/somerandomtwitchhuman)

Y'ALL SOPHANI KISSED AND THEY'RE ACTUALLY GIRLFRIENDS NOW HOW HAVE I NOT HEARD THIS NEWS YET I AM SO SORRY I'M LATE ABOUT THIS GAY SHIT OMG

She warns us before starting the stream, "Can y'all help me play the guilt card?"

Dani and Kaitlyn eagerly nod while Lissy and I share a glance and shrugged, why not. Sophie seems kind of against it, but I don't think the shy girl would speak up about it.

Gracie then starts the stream. "Hey guys! This is my first charity stream, and the charity is my bank account because high school is hard, man. These guys can agree, right?"

Dani steps up, dragging a reluctant Sophie along, with her hair messy from her beanie and her attempts to look rough. "I'm failing all of my classes... My dad can't know that I have a girlfriend... my only hope is my guitar and my muse, Sophie..." She kisses her cheek before exaggeratedly sniffling.

I put a hand on her shoulder, "I will support you no matter what, Dani, but will these streamers? We'll find out when they start donating to this worthy cause."

"And don't you worry, because this stream isn't all doom and gloom. We're about to play a modified version of the Newlywed Game to see how well we know each other! First is couples, so will Dani and Sophie, or Sophani, step up to go against Evelyn and Devon, aka Develyn?" Gracie smiles at the camera.

Devon and I sit on the sofa facing Dani and Sophie, and I immediately see Dani start playing with Sophie's hair.

Devon notices their adorableness and wraps his arm around me, allowing me to snuggle into him. I hesitate before doing it. I know I'm aromantic asexual. All my friends know, just not Devon yet. I don't think I even like him as a friend anymore; he can be kind of ignorant.

I don't really know how to break up with someone, and it may be better if I just wait to leave him. Or maybe if I just fake it my whole life. I wouldn't be happy, but hey, saves me an awkward conversation. No, ugh, that's really irrational. I'll end it with Devon at the end of high school. Wait, that's even worse! He wouldn't have a prom date or anything. Ooh, I get to go to prom this year cause I'm a junior!
