PROLOGUE
MAGGIE's POV
When the bell rang, I instantly stood up from my seat and walked out of the classroom in a hurry. I couldn't wait to get home right away. Today's my special day and my parents will throw a party tonight to celebrate my birthday.
"Hey, Mags! Where do you think you're going? I thought we would go out after class? You promised to accompany me to the spa, remember?" My steps came to a halt when I heard my best friend's voice. I turned around and faced her.
"Sorry, Luna, but I need to go home. My dad texted me a while ago. He arrived earlier than expected. Just ask Roxanne to go with you." She pouted upon hearing my response.
"Fine. If it wasn't your birthday today, I wouldn't accept that as an excuse."
I chuckled. "Hey, don't give me that face. Don't worry, I will make it up to you next time. Anyway, I really need to go. See you tonight at my party. Don't be late."
She rolled her eyes. "Yeah, sure." I laughed and waved my hand before exiting the campus. I looked around but I couldn't see my driver nor our car. I looked at the time in my wristwatch. It was already 3:30 pm. I took out my phone and dialed Rogelio's number. He's our family driver.
"Hello, Rogelio. Why aren't you here yet? My class is already finished." I said when he answered the phone.
"I'm sorry, Ms. Maggie, but there's a road accident here. Cars can't pass through yet but they're already on the process of clearing out the road." He answered apologetically. I groaned in frustration.
"Okay. I'll just wait for you here." I ended the call. While I was waiting, my stomach growled because of hunger so I decided to go to the nearby fast food chain to buy something to eat. I texted Rogelio to just come pick me up from there.
I decided to walk because the fast food restaurant was just 5-minute-walk away from the school. While walking, I couldn't suppress the excitement within me just thinking about my party tonight. I was merrily humming a song when suddenly, a group of three men blocked my way.
"Hi, Ms. We can't help but to notice you walking alone. Do you want company?" One of them asked with a smirk on his face. They looked like thugs in their mid-twenties.
"No. I don't need one." I answered with a stoic face and was about to walk past them but they didn't let me. I scowled at them in irritation.
"I said, I don't need company." I repeated with a stern voice. I wasn't scared because there were people around.
"And do you think we'll actually accept that?" They all laughed.
"What do you want from me?" I asked through gritted teeth. The other one rolled up the right sleeve of his shirt and showed me his tattoo as if that would throw me off.
"Do you see this? We're a member of a notorious gang and our mission is to get you." What the man said vaguely registered on my mind because my attention was on that tattoo. I've never seen that tattoo before. It was an eagle, carrying an ax in its right leg. There was something written below the animal but it was written in different language that I couldn't read nor understand.
"What the hell are you doing?! Why are you showing that to her?!" One of them hissed.
"So what? We're taking her with us anyway. We need her to please the boss." l snapped out of my thoughts when I heard what he said. I realized that I was in grave danger. I need to escape!
